Oxford University Faculty Attends A Two Days Pakistani Teacher Education Conference

A number of senior faculty members from Oxford attended Durbeen’s first International Teacher Education Conference on the 2nd and 3rd of February 2013.

As part of this project, students visited government schools, learned about the local education system, and completed the first Master of Science (Education) program in Pakistan.

Professor Ann Childs, Professor Ian Thompson, and Professor Aliya Khalid were among the Oxford faculty members who visited this week.

The conference took place over two days at GECE, Hussainabad. It covered innovative pedagogy and assessment practices in Pakistan, along with key challenges and possible solutions.

Educators from across the country and Oxford faculty attended the conference.

A panel of corporate and media speakers discussed how the public perceives teaching and how to encourage talented young people to pursue it.

A wide range of institutions were also represented, including Aga Khan University-Institute of Educational Development (AKU-IED), Karachi University, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Notre Dame Institute of Education, Lahore College for Women University, Sukkur IBA University, and Forman Christian College.

Durbeen trains professional teachers from restructured Government Colleges taught Education to improve the quality of education in government schools all over the country.

A Durbeen teacher told the press that, “A long-term benefit for government schools will come from training teacher educators who can become change leaders in teacher training colleges throughout Sindh and Pakistan.”

A total of four partners were involved in this program: the University of Oxford, the Government of Sindh (GoS), the Malala Fund, and Durbeen.

Many job opportunities will be available in Sindh for successful candidates from GECE, Hussainabad, and other teacher training colleges.
