A Screening Of Pathaan Starring SRK Was Disrupted By 30 Hindu Extremists
Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated comeback film, Pathaan, was released in India today to much fanfare. The Siddharth Anand-directed film also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.
The cinemagoers, cast, and makers were hopeful for Khan’s film to have an easy release after several Indian ministers claimed that security will be provided to guard the theatres. According to one of our correspondents, 30 Hindu rioters were arrested in this Karnataka district on Wednesday for committing violence and disrupting the film screening.
A Hindu far-right protestor stormed Swaroopa and Narthaki theaters and tore the movie’s posters, the publication reported. A boycott call has been ignored but rioters have condemned Khan’s film’s release. Security has been tightened around the theaters.
In Belagavi, Khadebazar police have registered a case against 30 Hindu rioters and detained a few. The police department has also deployed a platoon of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) near theatres, the report said. BJP MLA Abhay Patil condemned the release of the movie and urged it to be stopped from being shown.
It is important that they understand the feelings of the people and stop showing the film. The release of such movies spoils the atmosphere in society. The protest has already begun today. Women are opposing the release of the film, so the distributor must stop screening.
Across that state, Pathaan has been released and is being screened without incident in other regions, including the Bengaluru capital.
