Mitsubishi Unveils New Concept Model Ahead of Japan Mobility Show 2023

Mitsubishi will unveil a new Concept Car with a new concept of “electrified crossover MPV” at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 and this car will succeed the Delica D:5 model. The Japanese carmaker has just released images showing the tail of the car with a box-like shape. The T-shaped LED taillights are integrated into the rear glass along with the illuminated Mitsubishi logo. The lower part of the car is covered, but there is a roof box that can hold a small tent or provide additional cargo space. On the A-pillar is a bracket, likely the car will have a rearview camera to replace the mirror.

Mitsubishi teases that this concept car will seat 6 people

In another report, the Japanese carmaker also suggests that this concept car will combine “SUV road handling capability with the comfort and user-friendly nature of an MPV” while advancing towards a carbon-neutral society. The electrified powertrain will provide “range and driving performance to meet any adventure”. This description suggests a plug-in hybrid setup rather than a fully electric one, supported by the ability to “switch driving modes when required”. In any case, Mitsubishi confirms that this concept car will come with a four-wheel drive electric drivetrain, allowing the car to have off-road capabilities combined with high ground clearance and large diameter tires.

Mitsubishi has not disclosed any production ambitions for this electrified crossover MPV concept, but considering the launch timing and adventurous nature, many believe that this concept car could be developed as a successor to the Delica D:5. The current fifth-generation model has remained largely unchanged since 2007, with an update in 2018, making it a suitable time for a completely new design.

Mitsubishi’s new concept car will debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2023

In addition to the aforementioned concept car, Mitsubishi’s product lineup at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 will include the new Triton, a replica of the race version that participated in the Asian Cross-Country Race, along with the support vehicle Delica D:5 and other commercial models such as the Outlander PHEV, Delica D:5, Eclipse Cross PHEV, Delica Mini, and eK X EV.
