Pros:

– Compact exterior but sturdy, tall, and sleek.

– Sufficient interior space, with a modern touch.

Cons:

– Weak engine performance on long trips.

– Bulky A pillar that limits visibility.

– Discontinued by the manufacturer, with new and affordable B-segment urban SUV options from competitors.

A few years ago, the B-segment SUV market was the playground of the Ford EcoSport. The high-riding vehicle made its debut in 2014 and quickly surpassed its Japanese and Korean competitors, including the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Hyundai Creta, Suzuki Vitara, and always remained among the best-selling cars in Vietnam. Along with the Ranger pickup truck, the Everest SUV became one of Ford’s three main models at that time.

The EcoSport boasts a compact yet tall design, spacious interior, and a spare tire hanging at the back, highlighting its SUV characteristics. However, the front end of the car is not particularly outstanding, and the practical cabin shares similarities with other low-riding models from Ford, such as the Fiesta and Focus. The large A-pillar also limits visibility, which is another drawback of this model. Not to mention, the engine is quite weak when it comes to overtaking or going uphill.

The EcoSport received a mid-cycle facelift in 2018. The weaknesses of the previous model were significantly improved by Ford, which garnered positive feedback from a wide range of users. The new front end design is more stylish, with lens-type headlights that harmonize well with the trapezoidal grille, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

The EcoSport features a modernly designed cabin with upgraded amenities, such as automatic air conditioning and a separate 8-inch entertainment screen from the dashboard. It can be said that the 2019 EcoSport will maintain its durability for at least another 2 years.

The car is available in two engine options: a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine and a conventional 1.5-liter engine. The version mentioned in this article is equipped with a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine, delivering 125 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque, paired with a new 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new transmission provides a smooth driving experience, eliminating the discomfort found in the previous model. Despite its small displacement, the turbocharged engine delivers stable performance when driving in the city. However, the limitations of the small engine become more apparent when taking the car on the highway or uphill slopes.

The current market value of the 2019 EcoSport in the used car market is around 450 million VND or lower. The 2014 model, with its outdated design, can be purchased for just over 310 million VND, similar to the price range of current A-segment cars like the Kia Morning and Hyundai i10. Users who are upgrading from low-riding models to a higher-riding SUV with a budget of less than 500 million VND should consider the EcoSport 2019.
