[CAR REVIEW] VinFast Lux SA: A Worthwhile SUV within its Price Range

After 4 years of presence and 3 years on the market, VinFast Lux SA is still a very attractive name and an outstanding model in its price range. Despite being officially “discontinued,” this is still a worthwhile option in the used car market. A Lux SA with 70,000km on the clock and several previous owners still feels very solid and agile.

Timeless Design

After 4 years, it is fair to say that the VinFast Lux SA is still a very sleek and appealing model. Thanks to the talents and skilled hands of Pininfarina, the design of the Lux SA has not become outdated over time. In mid-2022, the car still offers a modern look and the signature VinFast style with its unique front and rear lights, high recognition.

After 4 years, the design of the VinFast Lux SA is still attractive, with the standout feature being the distinctive wing-shaped LED headlights.

The Lux SA that is 3 years old in this article has shown signs of “aging” that are easy to notice: due to the owner’s lack of interest in the appearance and only using the car to transport their child, the paintwork has many imperfect touch-up spots from minor collisions and has not been meticulously and skillfully repaired.

The body of the car shows many signs of sloppy repairs after minor collisions. However, this is an isolated case.

On the surface of the wheels, there are many deep scratches, especially at the rear – a position where collisions are unlikely to occur if the car is driven carefully. The owner has repainted the wheels black, making these scratches even more “unattractive.”

The front and rear rims also have many scratches, despite being repainted, indicating that the owner has been quite careless with their vehicle.

The default lighting system provided by VinFast for Lux SA has not fully satisfied many users. However, nowadays, owners have the option to easily upgrade their car’s lights with many choices from reputable third-party brands in the Vietnamese market, such as GTR or Aozoom.

Stepping inside the car, the VinFast Lux SA welcomes passengers with its luxurious brown Nappa leather interior, which feels premium with its soft and elastic texture. The Lux SA in this article has seat covers, so the leather surface still looks intact after 3 years of use.

However, in frequently touched areas such as the door handles or areas constantly exposed to sunlight like the top of the dashboard, the material surface has begun to show signs of wear and tear that have accumulated over time. However, overall, after 3 years on the road, the car’s interior has not aged and still feels very smooth.

The layout of VinFast’s Lux SA, which eliminates most physical buttons and integrates features into the central screen, has not been very well-received by customers. However, for many people, having fewer buttons and integrating features into the center screen is an advantage as it provides a solid and “SUV-like” driving experience.

Speaking of the central screen, the Vinfast Lux SA features a large 10.4-inch infotainment screen with a vertical layout that sets it apart from the majority. However, at the current stage, this screen still has very few features (despite the addition of Apple CarPlay connectivity).

As a temporary solution, the Lux SA owner in this article has chosen to use an android Box, which does not require modification. By simply plugging a USB cable into the original screen, it can be transformed into a Vietnamese Android screen with full modern and high-end smart features.

In the rear, the Lux SA is equipped with air vents, 2 USB charging ports, a cigarette lighter port, and a convenient 230V power outlet, serving emergency needs on the go. These equipped features are considered sufficient for a versatile SUV model.

Outdated Equipment

In 2022, the equipment list of VinFast Lux SA may not be as attractive to consumers compared to the abundance of options offered by other brands: the car is only equipped with LED lights, electrically adjustable – foldable mirrors with heating, and 19-20 inch wheels depending on the exterior version. The car does not have a 360-degree camera, smart lights, or advanced driving assistance systems.

Meanwhile, the Lux SA interior only features analog gauges behind the steering wheel, electronic parking brake with Auto-Hold, manually adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, and 8-13 speaker sound system depending on the version. The car lacks quick shift paddles behind the steering wheel, a sunroof, a “smart” screen, and is impoverished in terms of features…

Especially, the car produces a whining sound when operating at low speeds. However, when the air conditioning is turned off, this whining sound immediately disappears. Therefore, it can be speculated that the belt system connecting the engine and the air conditioning compressor has deteriorated and is causing noise during operation. This issue can be easily and quickly fixed by replacing the car’s belt.

It can be seen that VinFast Lux SA focuses more on the “quality” of the car, such as the engine, transmission, and chassis, as well as the values that come with them, such as soundproofing, damping of vibrations, and driving experience. The brand emphasizes investing in entertainment options to cater to passengers sitting in the car.

In terms of maintenance and after-sales service, VinFast provides a price for maintenance, repairs, and replacement of spare parts that is cheaper compared to the general market. The well-trained staff and standardized facilities nationwide make the after-sales process easier for VinFast.

In addition, to satisfy customers, the Vietnamese brand has announced an extension of the warranty period for Lux cars to 10 years – double or even triple the warranty policies of other mainstream car brands in Vietnam. This also demonstrates VinFast’s confidence in the quality of its products and builds trust with customers who are currently using the car or potential customers looking to buy a used car on the market.

Final Thoughts, after 4 years and 70,000 km on the road, the VinFast Lux SA is still going strong. Although signs of time have appeared on the car, the solid performance and European quality are still evident. The car prioritizes the driving experience rather than racing for entertainment features.

With the current price on the used car market ranging from 800 – 900 million VND (depending on the version and model year), the VinFast Lux SA is still an “unrivaled” car in its price range thanks to its enduring German quality and solid performance.

VinFast’s decision to extend the warranty to 10 years is also a very significant factor: it affirms the quality of the product and builds trust with customers (both current owners and potential customers in the used car market).
