The growth Rate of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in 2022 is higher than the overall national growth rate (8.02%). There are 10 regions that have the highest growth rate in the country in 2022 (figure 1).

GROWTH RATE AND SCALE OF GRDP

Among the regions with the highest growth rate of total production, there are regions that have the lowest starting point, meaning a low baseline for comparison. It is also possible that many regions outside this top list are not weak because of their own weakness, but because they face temporary difficulties and challenges both in inputs and outputs; and because if they have a high starting point, achieving a high growth rate is usually difficult.

However, in 2022, there are 26 regions with a lower growth rate of total production compared to the overall growth rate, including the 10 regions with the lowest growth rate in 2022 (figure 2).

Although they have the lowest growth rate in the country, it does not mean despair, because these regions are still growing well; moreover, to achieve long-term goals, it is not only about the growth rate today, but more importantly, the determination, resolute, creativity, and synchronization of solutions to achieve higher and sustainable growth rates in the future.

In the whole country, there are 27 provinces and cities that have a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) over 100 trillion VND (over 4 billion USD), including 10 regions with the highest GRDP in 2022 (figure 3). These 10 regions have a total GRDP of 5,305 trillion VND, accounting for nearly 50.8% of the country’s GDP.

After the top 10 regions, there are 17 regions in the country that have a GRDP over 100 trillion VND (figure 4). These 17 regions have a total GRDP of 1,935 trillion VND, accounting for 20.3% of the national GDP. If we include the top 10 regions, then the total GRDP of these 27 regions has reached 7,240 trillion VND, accounting for 76.1% of the national GDP.

These are densely populated areas, with a large amount of foreign investment capital from 1988 to the end of 2023, many businesses (including large corporations, enterprises with large export turnover), favorable geographical position, active support from the central government, and efforts from the localities, close connection with other regions,…

PER CAPITA GRDP

There are 13 regions in the whole country with a per capita GRDP in 2022 higher than the overall average (95.6 million VND) (figure 5).

Among them: the Red River Delta has the highest number of regions (6); followed by the Southeast region (4); the North Central Coast and the Central Coast (2); the Northeast and the Northwest (1); 2 regions that have no region are the Central Highlands and the Mekong River Delta.
