Examples of contaminants removed through ultrasonic cleaning include dust, dirt, oil, grease, pigments, flux agents etc .Before we go further, we would like to share with you how an Ultrasonic Cleaner works , the fluid it uses ,  etc.

HOW DOES AN ULTRASONIC CLEANER WORK

An ultrasonic cleaner which is also known as  ultrasonic bath  has  the following basic components:

  • Ultrasonic Cleaning Tank –  This holds the fluid and the items to be cleaned  as shown above.
  • Ultrasonic Generator – The ultrasonic generator transforms AC electrical energy to an ultrasonic frequency.
  • Ultrasonic Transducer – The transducer converts the ultrasonic electrical signal to mechanical energy.

The “bath” refers to the liquid or solvent solution in a tank, while “ultrasonic” refers to the method of cleaning using high-frequency sound waves. This simply means that ultrasonic cleaner works by cleaning materials using high frequency sound waves.

The key component of the ultrasonic cleaner is the ultrasonic transducer. This generates sound of frequency starting at 20khz which is  above the range of humans . There is an active element in the transducer which normally is piezoelectric crystals. These convert electrical energy to ultrasonic energy through what is known as piezoelectric effect in which the crystals change size aand shape when they receice electrical energy

An ultrasonic transducer consists of an active element, a backing and a radiating plate. Most ultrasonic cleaners use  as the active element. The piezoelectric crystal converts electrical energy to ultrasonic energy through the piezoelectric effect, in which the crystals change size and shape when they receive electrical energy.

THE FLUID USED IN ULTRASONIC CLEANER

The fluid used can be water-based or solvent-based . these fluids contain wetting agents o reduce surface tension and increase cavitation. Aqueous cleaning solutions are generally more limited in cleaning effectiveness but better for the environment than solvent cleaning solutions.
