The Expendables 4 Trailer, Cast & Expectations

After almost ten years of absence, Sylvester Stallone comes back with the fourth installment of The Expendables, the franchise bringing back old action stars and mixing them up with new blood. The Expendables 4 trailer was just released, and it unveils the cast of this new action movie.
Here’s everything you should know about The Expendables 4, and our opinion on this first trailer.
The Non-Expensives 4
Over the first three movies, Stallone managed to get quite a number of action stars, with legendary actors like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Mel Gibson, and even Wesley Snipes.
So, despite the questionable quality of the movies, nobody cared, it was all about seeing old action stars coming back to break jaws and crack one-liners with meta jokes. For the fourth movie, we have the returning character with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture. However, the new blood is not exactly new and not particularly exciting. Sure, Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais are incredible martial artists, but they’re not leads. 50 Cent is perhaps the only interesting newcomer to the franchise, but that’s clearly not enough to sell this movie. Also, who thought Megan Fox was an action star?

Stallone Is Passing The Torch To Statham
Stallone already stated in past interviews, Expendables 4 is going to be his last appearance in the franchise. Jason Statham is now producing and inherits the leading role. So, this new movie isn’t going to be Sly’s like the previous ones, it’s now a Statham franchise.
One thing is sure, such a decision means that the future of the franchise depends on the sole success of this movie. After that, Statham will be able to seek more bankable actors and have more budget. However, it may also mean losing what made the first trilogy so fun and tongue-in-cheek.

The Main Issue No One Seems to Be Addressing
Throughout this entire trailer, outside of the saddening cast, there’s one major issue no one seems to care about. Expendables 4 has a budget of $100 million, reportedly, which is the same as the second movie. Where is the money?
It’s not in the cast, it’s not in the special effects, and it certainly is not in the sets, which are almost all green screened in with questionable contouring. It’s so bad, even Netflix productions look polished compared to this trailer.

What Expendables 4 Should Have Been
With such a poor cast, we joked around and thought about who could have been in this movie, which actors could have been fun to see and here’s a list Hollywood will never even consider:

- Mila Jovovich
- Danny Trejo
- Carl Weathers
The list goes on, but it’s now nothing more than a pipe dream, and with Stallone soon to be out of the picture, we don’t expect a fifth episode.
