DC’s The Flash has finally been revealed with a trailer that showcases a lot about what to expect from Barry Allen’s first solo movie. Solo? Well, not exactly. In this article, we invite you to learn more about what to expect from this upcoming movie and our first impressions.

Michael Keaton is Back as Batman

Let’s address the elephant in the room, or in this case the bat. Michael Keaton, who was supposed to come back under the mantle of the Dark Knight for the cancelled Batgirl movie for a rumored $2 million cameo, will be in The Flash.

It’s the main event of the trailer, with Keaton shown extensively in the suit, with even a glimpse at a fight scene. However, no trace of Christian Bale’s Batman. There’s a shot of a Batman on a bike in daylight that looks furiously like it’s from the Dark Knight, however, it’s clearly Ben Affleck’s Batman riding it.

Parallel Universes: The Flashpoint Storyline

The trailer revealed a lot about the story we’ll follow for this movie. It’s still set in the universe built by Snyder, so Ben Affleck is present. However, like Batman V Superman and Justice League hinted at, Barry Allen is already able to travel through time and dimensions. The movie will pick up after Justice League, and perhaps even after the beginning of Darkseid’s successful invasion teased at the end of the Snyder Cut.

It seems like the events will loosely follow the Flashpoint storyline, with Barry meeting other versions of himself, including one without powers. We see a version of Allen without powers (yet!), wearing yellow, which hints at this character becoming Reverse Flash by the end.

Flash No Way Home

It’s hard to not see that this project intends to copy the Marvel universe, and specifically Spider-Man No Way Home. We see the return of General Zod, still played by Michael Shannon, Keaton, and Ben Affleck’s Batman, and an unknown Supergirl replacing Henry Cavill (which is a shame).

The issue with it being, that No Way Home had three timelines to play with, and iconic characters that people actually got attached to. So, this just seems like a lesser version of this movie.

Snyder’s Shadow: A Pointless Movie

Throughout the trailer, we’re treated to many slow-motion shots, full CG shots (not always impressive), and direction decisions that inevitably remind us this movie was created when Zack Snyder was still on board.

The problem with this is that it also reminds us that this movie will not contribute to James Gunn’s take on the DCEU, so it’s a pointless movie, and everything you’ll see won’t matter for the rest. The same will happen for Aqua Man 2, and the other projects that have to come out before Gunn’s Superman.

The Ezra Miller Case: Why Him ?

When James Gunn announced that Henry Cavill was “Not hired”, and that many actors from the previous universe won’t come back, we kind of expected a full cleanup. However, Amanda Waller will still be played by Viola Davis, and John Cena is still the Peacemaker.

Moreover, Jason Momoa’s Aqua Man will likely be recast after Aqua Man 2. So, out of all of this, why keep Ezra Miller as The Flash? Barry Allen wasn’t always lucky on screen, but the fact that Ezra Miller has a lot of issues in real-life makes it a questionable choice.

However, it’s not only about the actor’s allegations. His portrayal of the character in Justice League was already weak, with some of the least funny jokes, and questionable interpretation of a supposed genius character. Also, it’s kind of ironic to have a superhero, who’s main power is to run, played by someone who can’t run normally. The trailer shows that it’s more of the same, and a recast would have been better.

Should We Expect Something From The Flash

Despite being the fastest man alive, Barry Allen’s movie comes too little too late, and everyone has moved on from the old universe. It’s especially disappointing when we already know that it’s useless to get attached to anyone appearing here, and that there will be no consequences for the upcoming DCU.
