Key Terrain Cyber – Corporal Garrett Jones Research Fellowships

Key Terrain Cyber is launching its inaugural class of Corporal Garrett Jones research fellows. We are looking for motivated and talented military professionals to join us in the pursuit of education and innovation in the information environment. This program will help our fellows broaden their understanding of information warfare through individual study, research and reflection, and interaction with senior members of the information warfare community. This includes cyber, intelligence, communications, space, psyops, public affairs, MISO, reconnaissance, and special operations.

We at Key Terrain Cyber believe that our NCOs are the most important element of warfare in all domains and will restrict our inaugural class to military members of all branches, active duty and reserve, in the grades of E4 to E6. There is no education requirement. We will consider all personnel, regardless of MOS, who believe that they can contribute to furthering information warfare related concepts. We will pair each research fellow with a mentor who will help you develop your idea into a scholarly article.

Corporal Garrett Jones was born and raised in Newberg, Oregon. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005. He deployed to Iraq as an infantryman in 2007. Corporal Jones lost his leg to an improvised explosive device on that deployment and endured 20 surgeries to return to full duty. He declined medical retirement and instead deployed with his fellow Marines of 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines to the Helmand Province of Afghanistan in 2008 as an intelligence analyst. He later retired due to his combat injuries and continued his service to the Marine Corps as a civilian analyst with the Marine Corps Intelligence Agency. He is the 2014 recipient of the Marine Corps Mr. John J. Guenther Intelligence Civilian of the Year Award.

Requirements: We expect fellows to publish one article per 6-month fellowship period. In turn, Key Terrain Cyber will help you develop your writing skills and present your ideas to the rest of the information warfare community. Additionally, Key Terrain Cyber will set up virtual meetings with senior leaders from the information warfare community for you to engage with.

How to apply: Fellowships are competitive, involving a merit review and selection process. Review, evaluation, and selection will take place from now until January 15, 2023.

Application

1. Military biography with photo. No longer than one page.

2. 250-500 word research proposal.
