Directly thereafter he joined NTT DOCOMO and has since been involved in research and development (R&D) activities related to wireless access technologies for LTE, LTE-Advanced, and 5G.

Satoshi has worked on various issues such as synchronization signal design, distributed transmission, MIMO, CoMP and interference coordination, ITU-R evaluations, relay, TDD interference management, carrier aggregation, dual connectivity, LAA, D2D, MTC, and so on.

Mr. Nagata is now contributing the future network concepts, use cases, requirements and including SA and RAN matters. He is also now contributing to collaborate with many divergent industries such as car, robotics, AI, medical, space, and so on.

Patent №:11848734 (December 19, 2023) – User terminal and radio communication method.  This innovation presents a terminal equipped with a receiver and processor. The receiver helps in synchronizing signals by receiving a synchronization signal block, which contains a synchronization signal and a broadcast channel. The processor then determines a control resource set for receiving system information based on the broadcast channel’s information. This patent offers improved radio communication methods.

Patent №:11848891 (December 19, 2023) – User terminal and radio communication method. This invention focuses on improving the communication quality in future radio communication systems by transmitting uplink data and uplink control information using an uplink shared channel. The patent introduces a user terminal with a transmitting section to send uplink data and uplink control information, as well as a control section that intelligently selects between puncturing processing and rate matching processing based on instructions from the base station and predetermined conditions.

Yan Zhou

Staff Engineer (Wi-Fi Advanced R&D) at Qualcomm.

Yan has a total of 15+ years of working experience with 10+ years focusing on wireless standards R&D at worldwide well-known companies, with a strong academic background of double Ph.D. degrees from top-ranked universities.

Patent №:11849473 (December 19, 2023) – Beam ready time for downlink control information based beam activation command. The disclosure involves wireless communication, where user equipment (UE) determines when a beam, activated by a command, is ready for communicating with a base station. Other related aspects are also included.

Patent №:11848874 (December 19, 2023) – Virtual search spaces for beam indication. The disclosure details wireless communication methods where a base station assigns resources for a downlink shared channel and sends earlier configuration information for a control channel space. User equipment receives this information, identifies the allocated resources, and subsequently receives the downlink transmission.

Patent №:11848737 (December 19, 2023) – Techniques for autonomously determining candidate beams to support full-duplex communication.  This groundbreaking invention focuses on autonomously measuring and determining new candidate beam pairs during configured resources, streamlining the process of channel measurement in communication systems. Zhou’s work enables more efficient use of communication resources, improving the overall performance of full-duplex communication.

Patent №:11848733 (December 19, 2023) – Priority levels for channel state information reporting. This invention addresses the dynamic adjustment of priority levels for channel state information (CSI) reporting in wireless communications. By allowing user equipment (UE) and base stations to modify reporting priority based on specific conditions, this technology optimizes the transmission of CSI reports, enhancing efficiency and network performance.

Andrew John Ouderkirk

Research at Meta.

Mr. Ouderkirk is a Research Director at Facebook Reality Labs, where he leads teams developing new optical materials, components, and systems for augmented and virtual reality.

Andy developed new product platforms and established entrepreneurial teams within 3M’s Electronics and Energy business. Andy formed and led teams that developed 3M’s Multilayer Optical Film platform. This platform includes the world’s first commercially successful reflective polarizer, now commonly used in smartphones, tablets, and TVs. The platform also includes extremely reflective films used in LED lighting, solar-control films, and light piping.

Mr. Ouderkirk was a lead developer of a framework in 3M for managing teams, culture, and processes for platforms and entrepreneurial activities. He has served or is a board member of Singapore’s National Research Foundation, Singapore Economic Strategy Committee, and the USC Center for Global Innovation.

Andrew has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Northwestern University.

Patent №:11846774 (December 19, 2023) – Eye tracking with switchable gratings. Through this invention, Mr. Ouderkirk introduces a pupil-replicating lightguide that employs switchable out-coupling and tracking gratings. These gratings allow for the simultaneous use of the lightguide for carrying image light and eye-tracking light. By enabling the switching on and off of each grating sequentially, this technology facilitates eye tracking by redirecting tracking light towards an eye tracking camera while out-coupling image light towards an eyebox.

Patent №:11848542 (December 19, 2023) – Active optics feedback and calibration. An optical system comprises an illumination layer with point light sources for emitting calibration light, an optical combiner that allows visible light through while directing calibration light to a camera, and an active optics block with an adjustable lens. The camera generates an image of the light points, which the active optics block uses to adjust the lens’s optical power, focusing visible light and aiding in calibration.

Patent №:11846792 (December 19, 2023) – High contrast optical film and devices including the same. This patent involves the development of optical films comprising multiple interference layers that primarily reflect or transmit light through optical interference. With fewer than 1000 interference layers, these films offer exceptional optical properties. For specific wavelength ranges, they provide an average optical transmittance of over 85% for a first polarization state, an average optical reflectance of over 80% for an orthogonal second polarization state, and an average optical transmittance of less than 0.2% for the second polarization state.
