Redmi 12 Series Launches In India; Redmi 12 5G Rocks Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC: Yesterday Xiaomi’s subsidiary company Redmi announced Redmi 12 4G and Redmi 12 5G in India. While the Note 12 5G is a completely new smartphone from the company the Note 12 4G was already revealed in other markets more than a month ago.

Just like the Redmi 12C, which arrived as early as January, these two smartphones are mere entry-level smartphones, so they are not intended for users who are looking for performance-focused smartphones.

Redmi 12 4G

The Redmi 12 4G boasts a 6.79-inch FHD+ (2460 x 1080 pixels) LCD display. This massive display supports a 90Hz refresh rate and has a peak brightness of 550nits.

Regarding the performance, the MediaTek Helio G88 processor is onboarded. This 6nm octa-core processor is paired with ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU and up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB eMMC 5.1 storage.

In today’s world 128GB storage capacity is no longer considered to be enough, so the handset comes with an Hybrid SIM slot which supports external storage expansion of up to 1TB via a microSD.

The handset runs on Android Android 13-based MIUI 14 and it is confirmed to get two years of Android upgrades and three years of security updates.

Unlike the Redmi 12 5G, this model comes with an extra camera at the back. Its triple camera system is made up of a 50MP wide camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. You can record yourself and snap selfies with an 8MP sensor which is housed in the hole punch cutout at the top centre of the front panel.

For wireless connectivity, this phone supports dual-band Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0.

This phone has a 5000mAh battery that supports 18 watts of rapid wired charging just like the 5G model.

Also, Redmi has simplified the unlocking experience of the phone by integrating the fingerprint sensor into the power button.

Redmi 12 5G

The Redmi 12 5G offers a large screen measuring around 6.79 inches like the majority of top-end smartphones. But unlike them, its LCD panel has a resolution of FHD+ and refreshes at 90Hz.

The performance of the device is handled by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm which is backed up with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. At the moment, there are only two smartphones running this chipset, but according to reports, Poco’s next M-series smartphone will also make use of this chipset.

With this version, you also get a 5000mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging and a 50+2MP dual rear camera setup. The handset also features an 8MP selfie shooter and supports up to 8GB of virtual memory which makes it possible for the device to handle smooth running of heavy applications as well as multitasking.

The Redmi 12 5G boots Android 13(MIUI 14) out of the box. And according to the company, this model will receive two generations of Android OS and three years of security updates.

Additionally, this phone comes with an IR blaster, a 3.5 earphone jack and a side-facing fingerprint sensor for security. This phone supports the latest version of Bluetooth connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3.

Redmi 12 Series Indian Pricing And Variants

For the 4GB+128GB variant of the Redmi 12 4G, the company is charging around Rs 9,999. But if you opt for a 6GB+128GB model then you will have to pay around Rs 11,499. This phone is offered in three colour choices, namely Jade Black, Pastel Blue, and Moonlight Silver.

The Redmi 12 5G on the other hand is available in three memory configurations, 4+128, 6+128, and 8+256GB, which are priced at ₹11,999, ₹13,499 and ₹15,499, respectively.
