Finally, the San Diego-based semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm has announced its latest flagship chipset dubbed Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which will be responsible for powering premium devices.

Most of the flagship and upper-tier midrange phones that are slated to debut starting from this year (month) are expected to draw power from this processor. And also following its announcement, there is a long list of phone manufacturers including iQOO, Asus, ZTE, RedMagic, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Sharp, Nubia and Motorola that have come forward to confirm their plan to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered phones.

It is still unclear which company will be the first to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone, but, as per recent reports from reliable sources, the race to become the first company to release Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone will be between Vivo, Xiaomi, iQOO, and Motorola.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 announcement comes a week after Media Tek introduced the Media Tek Dimensity 9200 chipset, the successor to Media Tek Dimensity 9000, which is also dedicated to flagship phones.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is built using TMSC 4nm process technology. It is equipped with an octa-core CPU that includes 1 Cortex-X3 core clocked at 3.19GHz, 2 Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.8GHz,2x Cortex-A710 cores operating at up 2.8GHz and 3x Cortex-A510 cores running at a maximum speed of up to 2.0GHz.It supports up to 4K display at a 60 Hz refresh rate. Moreover, this processor has been confirmed to support LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.0 Storage system and 200mp camera

As for connectivity, this chipset comes integrated with the Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System which promises peak download and upload speeds of up to 10 Gbps and 3.5 Gbps, respectively. It also comes with support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7.
