Gervonta Davis, an American professional boxer, was born on November 7th, 1994 in West Baltimore, Maryland.

He attended Digital Harbor High School, which was conveniently located nearby. However, he decided to leave the school in order to focus on his career. Eventually, he finished a GED program in order to earn his secondary degree.

Davis has been going to the Upton Boxing Center for training since he was five years old. Davis receives instruction from Calvin Ford, who was the inspiration for the character Dennis “Cutty” Wise on the popular HBO series The Wire. Davis has had a very successful amateur career, winning many national titles.

In addition to his other accomplishments, he managed to secure two gold medals at the National Junior Olympics, three back-to-back National Silver Gloves Championships from 2006 to 2008, two National Police Athletic League titles, and two Ringside World Championships. Davis had an incredible record of 206 wins and 15 losses as his amazing amateur career came to a close.

Davis made his professional debut on February 22, 2013, when he was just 18 years old. His opponent was Desi Williams, who had a record of 0 wins and 4 losses, all of which were by stoppage.

On February 20, 2015, Davis achieved a remarkable first-round knockout win against Israel Suarez (4-4-2, 1 KO) at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This victory made Davis the first person to successfully defeat Suarez by stopping him.

ESPN announced on November 15, 2016, that Gervonta Davis would be fighting José Pedraza for the IBF super featherweight title on January 14, 2017. The match was set to take place at the Barclays Center in New York and would be televised on Showtime. Pedraza had an undefeated record of 22 wins, with 12 knockouts.

Davis moved up to the lightweight division on December 28, 2019. He won the vacant WBA (Regular) lightweight championship by defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa, a former unified featherweight world champion, in the 12th round with a technical knockout.

The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas hosted Showtime’s inaugural pay-per-view event on October 31, 2020. The event showcased a lightweight championship bout between Davis, the reigning champion, and Léo Santa Cruz, a four-division world champion.

On February 24th, 2023, they made an announcement that Davis will be going up against Ryan Garcia on April 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight everyone is excitedly waiting for will be a pay-per-view event jointly presented by Showtime and DAZN.
