Star Trek: Sci-Fi Milestones

CBS Studios will be celebrating Star Trek Day with the release of a brand-new animation series titled Star Trek: Very Short Treks. In addition to the animated shorts, creator Casper Kelley will also be launching a new comic book to commemorate the occasion. This latest venture draws inspiration from the Emmy award-winning show, Star Trek: The Animated Series. The animated shorts will not only feature familiar characters but will also pay homage to the beloved franchise and the first animated spin-off from the original series.

The cast for Star Trek: Very Short Treks consists of notable Star Trek veterans lending their voices to the familiar characters. George Takei will reprise his role as Sulu, Jonathan Frakes as Will Riker, Doug Jones as Saru, Armin Shimerman as Quark, Ethan Peck as Spock, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Connor Trinner as Trip Tucker, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, and Noël Wells as Tendi.

The first of the five shorts will make its debut on September 8, Star Trek Day, on both StarTrek.com and the Star Trek YouTube channel. Fans can look forward to new episodes every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. ET until October 4. A trailer for the upcoming series has also been released on YouTube, offering fans a taste of what they can expect.

For those eagerly anticipating more Star Trek content, Casper Kelley will also be launching a new comic book titled Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier. The first chapter of this comic book will be available digitally on StarTrek.com on September 8, with subsequent chapters being released weekly on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. ET. Physical copies of the comic book will be available for purchase at the New York Comic Con in October. Fans who wish to attend the event and acquire their own copy of the comic can purchase tickets at the New York Comic Con website.

The original Star Trek The Animated Series made its debut on NBC 50 years ago, serving as a continuation of the events from the original Star Trek series. The show followed the adventures of the USS Enterprise crew as they explored the depths of the galaxy. Voiced by original cast members including William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Majel Barrett, the animated series spanned across two seasons and comprised a total of 22 episodes.
