Ford Teases the "Epic Sequel" to the F-150 Lightning: Project T3

In a recent video shared across Ford's social media platforms, the automaker unveiled a sneak peek of what it's calling "an epic sequel to the Ford F-150 Lightning." With the codename "Project T3," this next-generation Electric pickup is scheduled to make its debut in 2025 and will be manufactured at the BlueOval City electric vehicle campus in West Tennessee. While specific details about the truck remain under wraps, Ford's engineers and enthusiasts are already buzzing with excitement.

In the brief video clip, a shadowy silhouette of the Upcoming Electric Truck is visible in the background. Although it's challenging to discern specific design elements, one familiar feature is the characteristic dip in the window line near the A-pillar—a signature of Ford's F-150 lineup. The codename "T3" signifies "Trust The Truck," a motto that embodies the commitment of the engineers behind this ambitious project to create a rugged and reliable electric pickup.

What sets Project T3 apart from its predecessor, the F-150 Lightning, is that it will be built on its own dedicated electric platform. This promises superior performance compared to the current Lightning pickup. Ford's teaser video hints at the truck being "sleek," "dynamic," and "impossibly quick." However, these buzzwords only scratch the surface of what enthusiasts are eager to know. The key question is whether Ford's offering will stand strong against competitors like the Silverado EV and Ram REV.

Both the Silverado EV and Ram REV are targeting over 650 horsepower, a bar that Project T3 should have no trouble surpassing. Nevertheless, the battleground in the electric pickup segment extends beyond sheer power. Range and charging capabilities are pivotal factors. Both rival models are aiming for over 400 miles of range, with the Ram even boasting 500 miles. Moreover, they can charge at speeds up to 350 kW, delivering 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes and featuring bi-directional charging. Ford's ambition is to meet and exceed these benchmarks, potentially positioning it as a leader in the electric truck market, depending on where the Tesla Cybertruck lands.

Ford's emphasis in the teaser video revolves around the truck's toughness. The Blue Oval is determined to ensure that customers can "Trust The Truck," emphasizing durability and reliability. Addressing production challenges that marred the launch of the Lightning is a top priority, reflecting CEO Jim Farley's commitment to improving Ford's overall quality. This upcoming electric truck will serve as a litmus test for the brand's dedication to delivering a dependable and rugged product.

The BlueOval City plant, where Project T3 will be manufactured, is projected to have an annual production capacity of 500,000 vehicles, optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness while creating approximately 6,000 jobs in the region. Looking ahead, this facility will also become the production hub for electric variants of the Ranger and Bronco by 2030, further cementing Ford's electrified future.
