How to Get IMEI Number on iPhone if Locked?

You probably need a phone service that requires your phone’s Imei, and you don’t know where to find it, right? Maybe you don’t know where to find it because you don’t know what it is and does.

You’re not alone. There’s so much stuff about your smartphone that you still don’t know, and like most of us, you’ll only know about them when circumstances require you to.

How to find the Imei Number on a locked iPhone?

If it’s your time to learn about the IMEI, then you’re in the right place. We’ll tell you what it is, what it does, and how to find it.

Part 1. What Is an IMEI Number, and How Does it work?

The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a 15-digit Number that uniquely identifies your phone across all mobile networks. IMEI number is basically your phone’s social security number. It is the only way to differentiate your phone from others.

Unlike serial numbers, IMEI numbers are shared between phone manufacturers and network carriers. Looking up this number on IMEI checker sites will therefore reveal manufacturer and carrier details.

A carrier can therefore use a phone’s IMEI number to track or block it from supporting other networks when it’s reported lost or stolen. While this sounds like a great way to discourage theft, it can still be hacked and changed to a different number.

1.1 Why You Need to Know Your Phone’s IMEI.

The above explanation doesn’t seem to involve a regular smartphone user that much. You just need to inform the right people if your phone is stolen and let them do the rest.

However, there are instances when you’ll personally use the IMEI number. Below are some cases where you’ll need to use the IMEI number.

1.1.1 When Confirming Your Phone’s Network Compatibility

I guess you have heard a few people complain about their phones not supporting specific networks.

The reason is quite simple. The new network still does not have the information they need to allow their phone to use their network.

How can you avoid this? Just provide the network with your phone’s IMEI number. This will give them all the details they need

1.1.2 When Buying a Used Phone

You never know what you’re getting when buying a used phone. Is it locked to a network? Was it stolen or involved in some fraud case?

The only way to know is by checking your phone’s blacklist status. Professional tools like the WipeLock IMEI checker will provide you with everything you need to know about the phone. Just enter your phone’s IMEI and wait for the report.

1.1.3 When You Need to Unlock Your Phone

Carrier-locked phones are very restricting. The unlock requirements set by the carriers make it even worse. It takes quite some time before you’re allowed to unlock your phone.

However, you can decide to use 3rd party tools or services to unlock your phone anytime. Most of them will only ask for your phone’s IMEI and the network it is locked to.

Part 2. How to Get Your iPhone’s IMEI Number

You now know what an IMEI number is, why it’s essential, and a few instances where you can use it. However, you can only use it if you know where it is.

Let’s see how or where to find your iPhone’s IMEI number. We’ve divided this into three parts to cover the most common scenarios.

2.1 On an iCloud Locked Device

iCloud-locked iPhones or any other iOS device are pretty useless. You’ll need to present proof of ownership before Apple unlocks it or its IMEI number to use 3rd party tools and services.

To find your IMEI number on your iCloud-locked iPhone, you check the following places:

2.1.1 The “Hello” Screen

This is pretty easy. Just restart your iPhone and wait for the “Hello” screen to appear. On the bottom right of the screen, tap the “i” button to display more information.

Your iPhone’s IMEI will be displayed as shown in the screenshot below.

2.1.2 The SIM tray

I still think the SIM tray is an unusual place to print the IMEI number.

Either way, you’ll find your iPhone’s IMEI and serial number printed right there when you pull it out. However, this only applies to iPhone 6 or newer.

2.1.3 On the back of the phone

Another place you can check for the IMEI number on your iCloud-locked phone is on the back. You might need proper lighting and maybe a magnifier; the font size is pretty tiny.

This method will work for iPhones 5/5c/5s/6/6s.

2.1.4 On the Packaging Box

If you bought the iPhone from the shop and didn’t throw away the box it came in; then it’s your lucky day. The IMEI number is one of the information printed on the box.

2.2 On Screen Locked Device

Just like iCloud-locked iPhones, screen-locked ones don’t offer much either. Except for the “Hello” screen, the places to check for the IMEI number are the same.

You can find the IMEI number of your screen-locked iPhone on the following:

  1. The SIM tray (explained above)
  2. The back of the iPhone (explained above)
  3. On Packaging Box (explained above)
  4. From iTunes

2.2.1 From iTunes

You can easily confirm your iPhone’s IMEI number using iTunes. All you need is your computer with iTunes installed and a compatible cable. You can do this by:

Step 1: Connect your phone to the computer, then launch iTunes

Step 2: Select your device

Step 3: Under settings, click the summary tab.

Step 4: Click your phone number to get your iPhone’s IMEI.

2.3 On Carrier Locked Device

The same methods discussed above will still work for a carrier-locked phone. Since you can use your iPhone, there are two more ways you can use to find the IMEI number.

On your carrier-locked iPhone, you can find the IMEI number:

  1. On the SIM tray
  2. On the back of the iPhone
  3. On the packaging box
  4. From iTunes
  5. Via the Dialer
  6. Via Phone Settings

2.3.1 Via the Dialer

This is the simplest way to find the IMEI number on an unlocked phone. You can get the IMEI number by simply dialing *#06#.

Your phone’s IMEI number will be displayed on the screen, as shown below.

2.3.2 Via Phone Settings

This is another simple method, but with a few more steps. Follow the steps below to confirm your iPhone’s IMEI number.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your phone.

Step 2: On the settings screen, tap General > About.

Step 3: Scroll down to locate your iPhone’s IMEI.
