Why a chainflex guarantee?

Why a chainflex guarantee?

Life can present us with surprises and dangers on a daily basis. It is for this reason that people hedge their bets. As well as insurances, guarantees can also help us feel safe. In the event that an unexpected event occurs, someone will come to my aid. Many people hope and believe that this will happen. Nevertheless, we must examine guarantees more closely. Are there differences and what exactly is behind the guarantee statement?

Generally, there is a difference between a statutory guarantee and an extended guarantee, which extends beyond the statutory guarantee. Companies are required to offer statutory guarantees to their customers, which are clearly defined by country. It is important that a product is free of defects and functions properly. A voluntary guarantee, such as the chainflex guarantee, is different. A company like igus has carefully considered such a guarantee promise. After all, the chainflex guarantee is not a promise that the chainflex cables are free of defects upon delivery; it is a functional guarantee for a defined period of movement in an energy chain.

How did the chainflex guarantee originate?

An organization like Igus has carefully considered such a guarantee promise. Chainflex's guarantee isn't a guarantee that the chains will be defect-free upon delivery; it is a functional guarantee for a defined period of time during which the cables will move.

The company's mission is to produce high-quality products that help customers cut costs at the same time. This cost savings is the goal, while improving the technology. One improvement may be enhanced durability. Consequently, a product's service life should be determined according to the parameters of its application. Our 3,800m2 test laboratory has accumulated the experience required for such a prediction over the years. We therefore predict service life on the basis of testing. What could be more valuable than leveraging our experience?

Igus knows its products and their expected service lives. Why not take advantage of this knowledge to help customers in a simple way? Clarity creates trust. Therefore, Igus launched its chainflex guarantee club in 2013. The warranty program has improved continuously over the years, and in 2015 it was renamed "chainflex guarantee".

What does the guarantee cover?

The chainflex guarantee for cables in the energy chain states clearly how long a cable is expected to last. Igus guarantees that the energy chain will last up to 40 million double strokes or 36 months, whichever comes first. In order for this to be possible, it is necessary to adhere to the installation and application parameters specified in the catalogue. These parameters can be easily be checked for each cables series from a table.

Service life calculator

Igus offers a free, online service life calculator in addition to the chainflex guarantee. By entering application parameters, the customer can obtain an instantaneous estimate of service life. Despite smaller bend radiuses or when much larger bend radiuses are used for a particular cable, this method works. Alternative cables are shown with their expected service life, making it easy to determine whether another cable would be more suitable.

What is behind the chainflex guarantee?

Chainflex's guarantee goes beyond a simple promise. It encompasses an entire process for determining service life. In the chainflex service life calculator, for instance, collected data from many cable tests is used. Additionally, the guaranteed service life is based on over 25 years of cable testing. An independent external company, UL Verified, has confirmed the quality of the product.

The advantage for the customer

The advantage is obvious: planning reliability, since the time at which a cable must be replaced can be accurately determined. Thus, sudden machine downtimes can be avoided. However, igus will provide a replacement cable in the unlikely event of premature cable failure. Assume that the application parameters have been adhered to and that any third-party responsibility can be excluded.

You can even use the service life calculator to determine a more suitable cable alternative. On the screenshot of the service life calculator above, comparison types are also listed below the result along with their price and service life.
