International touring back in the calendar for our national disability squads

Cricket Australia has announced the Australian squad for the 2022 Deaf International Cricket Council (DICC) T20 Champions Trophy in the United Arab Emirates.

Australia will travel to Ajman in the UAE on 29 September where they will play T20I matches against South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, with their eyes firmly set on reaching the knockout stages
with the semi-finals and final to be held on 8th and 9th  of October respectively.

It is the first time an Australian National Disability squad will tour internationally since the onset of the pandemic and will be the national deaf squad’s first overseas tour since the 2018 Deaf Cricket World Cup in India.

Long-term captain Andrew Park will lead a squad which includes the uncapped trio of Liam Prineas, Nicholas Mahoney and Thomas Robertson.

Australia’s National Disability Squads made their long-awaited return to international cricket at the CommBank International Cricket Inclusion Series (ICIS) in Brisbane, in June 2022. The Australian deaf squad hosted an Ashes series, playing five T20s and three ODIs against England.

The DICC T20 Champions Trophy kicks off the 2022-23 international touring schedule for Australia’s national disability teams with the national blind squad set to head India next month for the 2022 ICC Blind T20 World Cup.

Thanks to CommBank, cricket is the first non-Paralympic Australian sport to fully fund national disability squads.
