Q1 2024 – Business Update from our CEO – Newsletter

Dear Customers, Partners, Staff and Friends,

I hope this message finds you well as we say goodbye to summer and look forward to the season ahead. As we exit a busy Q1 period, I want to reflect on and share our recent achievements and challenges while outlining the exciting opportunities that Millenium Roller Doors (MRD) intends to pursue as we move into the middle half of the year and beyond. 

Reflecting on the past six months, I am pleased to share that MRD has surpassed its goals and targets for the fiscal year 2023. With COVID disruptions now a distant memory, the doors of opportunity certainly opened up in a big way for our business. It has been marked by significant milestones, including signing a large industrial doors contract in the Seychelles and expanding our operational reach to supply doors to a major development in the DRC. These breakthroughs result from the team’s hard work to aggressively expand our network of roller doors distributors and reach new and diverse markets, to satisfy the growing demand for our premium roller shutter doors solutions.

Not Just a Smooth Operator – Overcoming Challenges to Unearth New Opportunities

Undoubtedly, our industry has not been immune to challenges. Several factors have emerged in the last few months, which while initially posing challenges, will lead to new opportunities in the coming season. These include;

Supply Chain Disruptions 

Like many manufacturing and retail industries, we have faced disruptions in the supply chain, which have impacted the timely delivery of materials and components to finalise our clients’ orders.

Increased Competition

Success naturally breeds opportunities (and opportunism!). The roller doors industry continues to evolve, with new players entering and existing competitors expanding their product offerings. This dynamic environment requires constant innovation and a continued focus on delivering superior products to our clients. Quality and Service delivery have been the cornerstone of our business for over 24 years—you can be personally assured that we will never relent or compromise on this!

Technological Advancements

Embracing technological innovations such as smart systems and automation presents opportunities and challenges that require strategic investments in research and development and collaboration with the right stakeholders. Our collaboration with Centurion Systems to supply smart garage door motors, available on our online shop, is already a testament to this. While our primary focus will always be on manufacturing and supplying our residential and industrial roller doors, we continue to look for AI and technology that can be integrated into our physical products to serve our customers better.

Customer Preferences 

Charles Darwin famously penned the phrase, “It Is Not the Strongest of the Species that Survives But the Most Adaptable.” We don’t intend to become the next Kodak or Blockbuster (movie rental store). Still, we recognise that we need an “adapt or die” attitude in business by monitoring and responding to changing industrial, residential, and commercial door trends. We will always strive to stay ahead of the curve and deliver products that resonate with our client’s current and future requirements. 

Exciting Plans as we roll into Q2 2024 and Beyond!

In trying our best to navigate the challenges mentioned above, we spent much of the last few months rolling up our sleeves and drafting exciting plans going forward, some of which I am excited to share with you. These include;

Investment in Manufacturing Infrastructure

We recently acquired a state-of-the-art guide roll forming machine, improving our capabilities and capacity to roll out more doors while supplying ton steel merchants more efficiently.

New Product Alert! 

While still in the late prototype stages, we can share that our team is tirelessly working on a new design for a complete aluminium roller shutter door, specifically tailored for luxury coastal homes, with plans for wider applications in inland properties. Continued Distribution Expansion

Much of our strategic effort over the last 18 months has centred on a roller shutter doors distribution drive that has expanded our product reach across all nine provinces and into industrial doors in Botswana, Nigeria, Seychelles, and the DRC. We will continue to expand our market footprint into Sub-Saharan Africa and the wider African continent, carefully choosing the right distribution partners to work alongside us for mutual commercial benefits.
