Garden Flag Guide

Some good Garden Flag advice is to keep things simple. Here is a list of the supplies you’ll need to make your summer flag:

  • A rectangular piece of canvas or burlap
  • Fabric paint
  • Scissors and glue
  • A needle and thread or sewing machine
  • Garden flagpole

It’s also optional to get some decorative items such as buttons, ribbons, bows, stencils, seashells, or artificial flowers. One of the best garden flag tips to save money and recycle is to use an old canvas bag or placement that you can repurpose to make your flag material.

Making Your Garden Flag

In this guide, we’ll be instructing you on how to make a garden flag that hangs vertically. The reason for this method is it is the most simple and easy way to make one.

To begin, place your material by your flagpole on a flat surface and mark out where you need to make the cuts for it to fit on the pole. It’s typical that you’ll have a vertical hanging flagpole with the horizontal section being about 12 inches.

So cut your flag material a little bit narrower than 12 inches so it will fit. In terms of the vertical length of your flag, it’s for you to decide (as long as it doesn’t drape on the floor).

Next, you should double up the top part of the material and glue it down to make a loop. You should then stitch up this loop to make it stronger, either with your needle and thread or a sewing machine. The loop is so you can slide the flag on the pole.
