The WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.6 update revealed that the company is working on Channels, a one-to-many tool for broadcasting. With the help of this, people will be able to easily get news from the people whom they select.

This feature is still in the development phase for Android. According to a recent report by WABetainfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.8.0.75 update available on Testflight has revealed that the feature is in the works for the iOS app as well.

A screenshot is given in the report. It is visible that the company is renaming the Status tab to Updates. Channels will be listed in this section only. WhatsApp channel is a private tool, where the phone number and information of the users joining the channel are always hidden.

However, messages within a channel are not end-to-end encrypted. Because the concept of one-to-many doesn’t make much sense for channels. Note that channels will not affect end-to-end encryption of private messaging, which will remain end-to-end encrypted.

This private messaging service is an optional service. Channels will also support handles, so users can search for a specific WhatsApp channel by entering their username within WhatsApp. This feature is designed to improve the reach of the channels, making it easier for users to get updates of their choice.
