Common Air Conditioning Problems

ABeing aware of the most common problems with air conditioning units is an enormous help for preventing breakdowns. Air conditioners, which were forgotten in the past few months, are again the talk of the town, and air conditioner problems simply cannot be tolerated!

Most Common Air Conditioning Problems

Not Blowing Cold Air

Your air conditioning unit blowing hot air indicates a number of issues, but is commonly caused by clogged air filters, or a miscommunication with the thermostat settings. Clean your AC unit and replace the batteries in the thermostat before taking the unit for air conditioning repair.

Air Conditioning Refrigerant Leak

AC refrigerant is also known as Freon and is responsible for cooling the air within your air conditioning system. As the name suggests, it is the actual mechanism through which an AC cools your home. A refrigerant leak (link to the article) is one of the common AC unit problems and can reduce your air conditioner’s efficiency. Moreover, leaks can also be harmful to the immediate environment.

Frozen Evaporator Coils

Your air conditioner’s evaporator coil is filled with refrigerant, and is responsible for absorbing the heat from the air like a sponge. It may sound counter-intuitive, but those coils need warm air circulating around them to work properly. When something goes wrong with the airflow and the evaporator coil gets too cold, a layer of ice can build up on the outside. When that happens, you’ll get warm air or none at all coming from your  AC supply registers.

Compressor

The compressor applies energy to the refrigerant and propels it through the coils to carry out heat exchange. If the compressor is not working. The AC unit will not cool your house. If there’s not enough refrigerant, the compressor will run hot and eventually seize. If there’s too much, the refrigerant will return to the compressor, which can cause it to fail.
