The author, Rick Riordan, is sharing that a casting announcement for the upcoming television version of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be released shortly.

The most-loved novel series with the same name is based on the main persona, Percy Jackson, a young god who sets out on a journey to stop the Titans from ruining this world of the 21st century. Riordan made it clear in 2020 that Disney would be producing the new live-action TV show scheduled to debut through its online streaming service and that the initial season would feature The Lightning Thief.

The author also revealed that he will be involved in the development of the show as well as sharing updates along the progress on his personal website. Most recently, he confirmed that production on this Disney+ adaptation would begin in June in Vancouver, Canada.

The fans of the original material are probably acquainted with 20th Century Fox film adaptations The first, The Lightning Thief, was released in 2010 and Sea of Monsters coming out three years afterward.

Although both films proved to be popular at the box-office but they faced criticism over their treatment of the books, with Riordan expressed his displeasure at the changes to his tales. Riordan spoke to the media by saying that he had no idea whether actors who appeared in The Percy Jackson movies would return to play a different role, but said that the purpose of the new show is to begin fresh.

However, fans did love the performances by Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario as well as Brandon T. Jackson, and news of the upcoming series has led many to use social media to demand their participation, and to open up discussions about the casting.

Then, Riordan has shared another update on his website, this time stating his belief that Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is getting close to having three main characters, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth.

He further states that he will not reveal any details regarding casting until all required deals have been closed. He then states that they’ve begun considering casting other characters, but are in the initial stage of this process. “Just a guess, I would say we are at least a couple more weeks away from being able to announce anything, and when we do announce the three main leads, we will probably announce them all at once (but that is JUST my personal guess).“

Riordan’s involvement on the film adaptation in the near future has thrilled viewers who are hoping for more of his works on the screen. A recent news item from the author was the selection for James Bobin as the director of the first episode.

Bobin’s most recent credits in film are Alice Through the Looking Glass and Dora and the Lost City of Gold Riordan has stated that he is familiar with the script well. The writer has offered a glimpse of some of the designs for the sets by calling them stunning and revealing that they’ll delight fans.
