Lauren Cohan, star of The Walking Dead The Walking Dead, discusses the story behind her character Maggie’s spinoff series with Negan , which will air on the Isle of the Dead.

The show is based on the comic-book series with the identical title, The Walking Dead first premiered in October of 2010 and focused on a tiny group of survivors shortly after the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse. The show is now in the final season The Walking Dead has thus already produced two spinoff shows, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

With the main series closing this year three spinoffs are being confirmed, along with a documentary series that focuses on the whereabouts of the former Walking Dead main character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

One spinoff that has attracted a lot of attention has been Isle of the Dead. The new series will see Maggie as well as her arch nemesis Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) come together in their journey to the east coast, and eventually arrive on an island called Manhattan which was separated from the mainland long before. The city is filled with pedestrians as well as those who have chosen to accept the post-apocalyptic jungle as their own home.

Cohan has recently praised the plot as a Walking Dead spinoff, saying she enjoyed it because it was “really powerful and such an interesting way for fans to get to see these characters continue.” Six episodes of Isle of the Dead are scheduled to air in 2023. The Walking Dead writer Eli Jorne acting as showrunner.

In an interview with ComicBook.com Interview, Lauren Cohan detailed the background of Isle of the Dead. The show was one of several Walking Dead spin offs considered for Maggie. Cohan was then able to explain what made the team behind the show decide to make this show.

“I mean, Jeff and I are just over the moon because it completely serves who they are and where they will end up at the end of Season 11. It’s somehow even more fraught than we’ve been in this season. So it’s good for us because I feel like I got to find things of Maggie that I wanted to explore more, and this backdrop for Isle and in conflict with Negan is such a great opportunity to do it.

“So I think they had a lot of different ideas and then they sketched everything out. And whatever feels the most enticing and what we think the fans will be most excited about is what won the day.”

While the specific plot details for Isle of the Dead are not yet available, the relationship of Maggie and Negan will form the core of this story. In the past, when Negan became the head of the Saviors Negan mowed Maggie’s husband and the father of her child to death right in front of her.

Maggie has her sights determined to get revenge ever since she returned in The Walking Dead, but the events of season 11 changed her plans. After a massacre of a smaller group through The Commonwealth’s Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), Negan saves Maggie’s son’s life.

This creates an intriguing situation for Maggie as the Isle of the Dead draws closer. This season of The Walking Dead season 11 still has time to alternate with Maggie and Negan The foundation is in place for their future collaboration.

The reason Maggie and Negan are required to travel into the center of New York City for the forthcoming The Walking Dead spinoff not yet known is that the fans can be sure of an end to their long-running story. Based on Cohan’s remarks however, it seems as if Maggie and Negan’s adventures on Isle of the Dead will be quite enjoyable.
