Although mainly Marathi people indeed live in the state of Maharashtra, as the capital Mumbai has become the financial capital today, we can see that people of all communities have settled in Mumbai in large numbers. Bombay, flourishing industries and giving work to every hand, has accommodated crores of people .

Attire




Traditional attire for male in Maharashtra includes the dhoti, also known as 
Dhotar, and pheta, while a choli and nine-yard saree locally known as Nauwari saree or Lugda are for women. They frequently wore open sandals or chappals as their footwear. In the 21st century, The traditional attire is increasingly worn by Maharashtrians only during the religious event or Marathi festivals.


Food

The Food of Maharashtra is from sweet to mildly spicy to spicy. A typical Maharashtrian meal contains boiled rice, bhakri or poli along with varan, aamti, and cooked lentils or a spiced vegetable. Bhakri is vital part of Maharashtrian Food. Some the dishes like Batata vada, Vada pav, Puran poli, Ukdiche modak, Sabudana khichdi, Pav-bhaji, Misal pav and Masala Bhat are some of the Famous vegetariandishes served throughout Maharashtra. Non-vegetarian food contains dishes mostly made of fish, chicken, and mutton. Some of the popular non-vegetarian dishes contain Sukka mutton, pandhra rassa, and tabmda rassa,which originated from Kolhapur, and saoji mutton which is famous in Vidarbha.

Folk Dance and Music

The folk music and dances of Maharashtra are Koli, Powada, Banjara Holi dance and Lavani dance.  Powada dance form shows achievements of Shivaji. Koli music and dance originated from the fishermen community for entertainment. The word 'Lavani' derived from Marathi word Lavanya meaning beautiful and beauty. Lavani dance form showcases many topics like romance, politics, tragedy, society, etc .Village women of Maharashtra sing a folk song called Owi describing husband's home.It is usually sang by women while grinding grains on jaata(जातं).Suvasinis sing folks songs at the halad ceremonies in a marriage. Palane/Angai geet is a lullaby in Maharashtra.

Festival

Every state in India has its own culture, traditions, and festivals and Maharashtra is no exception. Some festivals like Nag Panchami, Ganesh Chathurthi, Gokul Ashtami, Makar Sankranti, Gudi Padwa, Bhau Beej, Ellora Festival Narali Pournima, and Shivaji Jayanti have arised in Maharashtra. Nag Panchami is devoted to the Snake God. The Snake God is prayed to get rid of the 'Nag Dosh. Ganesh Chaturthi festival commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha. This festival is celebrated with great fanfare for ten days. The folks of Maharashtra celebrate other festivals also like Dashera, Diwali, Christmas, Eid, and New years. In most places, people celebrate all main festivals irrespective of their religion, and honestly, that just shows unity and brotherhood among them.



Tourism


With Gateway of India, Sea link, Siddhivinayak,Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Marine drive in Mumbai, Hazi Ali, Mahalaxmi temple in Mumbai, Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple in Nashik, Mahabaleshwar (hill station), historical places in Aurangabad and many more places to visit Maharashtra has truly become a tourist destination. The hotel industry in Maharashtra is huge and flourishing.


Religion

There are around 80 per cent of Hindus and good amount of Muslims in Maharashtra. Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and other religions are a minority. Maharashtra has the India's largest Buddhist and Jain populations. Churches, temples, mosques and other religious hubs are found throughout Maharashtra. The people of Maharashtra take pride in their cultural variety and respect each religion.


Occupation

Usually, the occupation of the majority of Maharashtra was agriculture. People near the coastal region were involved in fishing work. But over the years, many places have been developed and industrialized, giving an increase to many business and job opportunities to the people


Film Industry

As Mumbai is the financial capital of the state of Maharashtra billions of rupees are traded daily in Mumbai alone. And among them, the film industry, which is the center of attraction for all, is also located in this Mumbai, so it has acquired a different ring. Many popular actors and actresses like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone, reside in this state. Hindi (Bollywood), English and Marathi films are a great hit among the audiences. In recent times, some people from other states have crowd pile to Maharashtra particularly Mumbai due to the wide array of career chances.
