The year might be drawing to a close but the tech world is not done with its wearables storming the markets, with the Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6 debate the latest to arrive at our doorstep. The  Pixel Watch 2 is ready for pre-orders, with store availability scheduled for 12 October.  While the weigh-in between Pixel and Samsung phones is often a lot easier to settle on with considerations of specs like display, processor, and sound, it is a little more complicated to pick a watch that suits your needs. We’re here to simplify the process for you. Let’s take a look at the Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6 and see which might be the best investment for you.

Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6: Wireless Charging Support?

Wireless charging has been a selling point for most devices on the market today. Providing a simplified, hi-tech experience, it often just feels cooler to use wireless charging on a device. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 6 supports wireless charging, however, with the WPC-based wireless charging rather than Qi charging that’s popular today. Does the Pixel Watch 2 have wireless charging? No! Android Police reports that the four-pin charger that the Pixel Watch 2 will use might allow faster charging but wireless charging support is unlikely.

Is the Pixel Watch 2 Bigger? Does it Have a Better Display?

Comparing the Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6 in terms of size can be confusing. The Galaxy Watch wins with its two size options 44mm (33.3g) and 40mm (28.7g), which lets you pick a device bigger or smaller than the Pixel option. The Pixel falls right in between with its 41mm display size, weighing 30g. Choosing between the two watch dials will be left to personal taste.

Both watches feature AMOLED screens but the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6’s pixel per inch stands at 330 and 327 for its two models, while the Pixel Watch 2 shows 320 ppi. The Samsung smartwatch also has 2,000 nits peak brightness, double Google’s 1,000 nits brightness.

Can you Swim with Pixel Watch 2?

The Pixel Watch 2 has an IP68 rating, which makes it dust and water-resistant, capable of being submerged up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) for approximately 30 minutes. Its 5 ATM rating allows it to withstand the pressures of being submerged up to 164 feet (50 meters) making it usable while swimming. The Galaxy Watch 6 has the same ratings, allowing both to be used while swimming or for the watches to be cleaned in a sink.

Can Pixel Watch 2 Take Your Temperature?

The Google Pixel Watch 2 is capable of calculating your skin temperature while in use. The Pixel Watch 2 has advanced monitoring systems that assess skin temperature, blood oxygen levels, heart rates, etc. Its cEDA (Continuous Electrodermal activity) sensor can help you track your stress level, working as a well-balanced health assessor. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 also has a “Thermo Check” app that uses an infrared Skin Temperature API sensor to monitor your health. The infrared sensor also allows the measurement of your surroundings, putting it one step ahead of the Google Pixel Watch 2. However, we will only know how accurate the Pixel Watch 2 is once it is more widely available after 12 October.

Which Is More Durable: Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6?

How durable is the Pixel Watch? Pretty sturdy with 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that promises resistance to scratches and any basic impact. Its dust and water resistance of IP68 matches that of the Galaxy Watch 6. The Galaxy Watch 6 comes with a MIL-STD-810H certification that guarantees performance under more extreme environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, shock, and vibrations. While the certification might not hold too much ground until properly put to the challenge under tough environmental conditions, it is still likely more durable than the Pixel Watch 2 with its more delicate, domed body design.

Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6 Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy Watch has a reported 40-hour battery life without the Alway-On display or a 30-hour battery life with it turned on. This is substantially higher than the Pixel Watch 2 with its 24-hour battery life with the Always-On display turned off. While this should be sufficient for a regular user, the limited battery life still puts the watch at a disadvantage. The Pixel Watch 2 does promise fast charging, with a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes and full charging within 75 minutes. However, in this round of the Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6, the Galaxy Watch 6 wins.

Is the Pixel Watch 2 More Expensive than the Galaxy Watch 6?

The Pixel Watch 2 base Wi-Fi model is available at $349 and the Pixel Watch 2 LTE model is priced at $399. The Galaxy Watch 6 is available at $269 (40mm) and $299 (44mm). The larger Galaxy Watch 6 Classic starts at $3699. Depending on your budget, the Galaxy Watch 6 might be the more affordable alternative compared to the Pixel Watch 2.

So far, the two smartwatches seem almost equally matched but the Galaxy Watch 6 seems to be inching ahead of its competitor. The final choice might come down to price and overall brand preference. The final results of the Pixel Watch 2 vs Galaxy Watch 6 will only be evident once the Pixel Watch 2 sees daily use, where we will have a more concrete verdict on the comparison between the actual performance of the two devices.
