Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias is returning for another season. Season 3 returned on the streaming platform on 20th July 2023. The show has become a hit for the streaming platform just like Virgin River. The show is based on the book series by Sheryl Woods. Sweet Magnolias is currently trending at #1 on Netflix. Fans already want more of their favorite Southern belles from Serenity.
Sweet Magnolias has mostly received positive reviews from both critics and the audience. The series has a 7.3 rating on IMDb and a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Release Date
Fans are already curious to new about the renewal status of the show. Netflix has not announced anything yet. Due to the two ongoing strikes SAG-AFTRA and WGA in Hollywood, it is hard to say when will the show return. On the SGA page of Sweet Magnolias, it seems like season 4 is already in development. But, Netflix has yet to announce the official renewal of season 4. Sheryl J Anderson the writer of the show also shared the pictures with the other team members from the strike. So, it is hard to say about the release date of season 4 yet.
Is Sweet Magnolias’s season 4 canceled?
Netflix takes some time to announce the renewal news for the shows. Netflix took three months to announce the renewal of season 3. But, there are exceptions, Netflix renewed Virgin River for seasons 4 and 5 at once. So, there is a chance we might be hearing about the upcoming season soon. It also depends upon viewership and audience response. Sweet Magnolias’s season 3 failed to perform well as compared to the previous seasons. Netflix is notorious for pulling plugs on the show if the viewership is low. Netflix has canceled many shows like Warrior Nun, 1899, Girlboss, and The Good Cop. But, there is a chance the show might perform better in the future as season 3 was released last week. There is still hope for season 4.
Plot
Season 3 did not end on any major cliffhanger. But there are many questions that need to be answered. One of the major questions that need to be answered is will Erik and Helen reunite? Helen ended things with Ryan if there is a chance that Erik and Helen might be back together. Erik’s relationship with Genevieve might become a problem. Also, Helen was seen urging Penny to run for Mayor’s office. Isaac will tell Noreen that he is the half-brother of her daughter. Annie and Ty both were seen holding hands, so Annie will finally get together with her long-running crush.
However, the show has deviated from the original material. But, there are a total of eleven books in the series so the creator might take some cues from them.
