Instagram Reels is a new way of recording 15-second video clips. This feature is pretty similar to Tiktok. TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing platform owned by ByteDance. It was really famous in India, but due to conflict between India and China, the application is now banned in India. There are multiple applications that are copying the TikTok concept. Recently, an application was launched by Chinese tech-giant, Zynn which was totally identical to Tiktok. People preferred it because it was actually paying its users for watching videos in the form of cash and gift cards. However, it was recently removed from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App store because of plagiarism.
What is Instagram Reels?
It is a new feature that is introduced on Instagram which allows users to share fun and engaging video content of 15 seconds. The feature is only available in Brazil, France, and Germany. After the ban on Tiktok in India, Facebook is now testing this feature in India. These videos can be shared as stories, direct messages. Moreover, they will be available in the “Top Reels” section which is totally identical to the Tiktok layout.
Instagram users can also choose music for their video from a huge music-library or record their own soundtrack.
I think Musically before TikTok, and TikTok deserve a ton of credit for popularizing this format
Now Available in India
Tiktok has 1,000,000,000+ installs on Google Play Store. It is no surprise that Instagram is coming with a similar feature. It’s not the first time Facebook has copied a feature from another application. The Stories concept, which is now available in WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, was copied from Snapchat. Since Tiktok has a huge audience from India, its the perfect time to launch Instagram Reels Feature since Tiktok is banned in India.
We’re planning to start testing an updated version of Reels in more countries
