The Division 3 is Officially in the Works Under Star Wars Outlaws Director Julian Gerighty

The Division franchise has been a big success for Ubisoft, and yet, the series’ future has been in question in recent years. Free-to-play title The Division Heartland seems to be in limbo, and there’s been no info about a new core entry in the series, with rumors circulating nothing is in the works. Instead, Ubisoft has extended their live service support for The Division 2, which is now over 4 years old.

Well, good news – today Ubisoft quietly announced that The Division 3 is indeed happening. The game will be developed by series creators Massive Entertainment, with Julian Gerighty spearheading the project. Gerighty was creative director for The Division 2 before overseeing the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. Gerighty is becoming the overall executive producer for The Division brand…

“As part of Ubisoft’s ongoing commitment to grow its globally recognised brands, Ubisoft is happy to announce that Julian Gerighty has been appointed as the new Executive Producer for the billion-dollar brand Tom Clancy’s The Division. As Executive Producer, Julian Gerighty will oversee all The Division games and products, including Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, led by Massive Entertainment who are actively building a team for the game.

This announcement represents Ubisoft’s dedication to the longevity of the brand. In his new role, Julian will drive the many interdependent production elements of The Division brand in a unified direction. This includes development oversight, operations, and creative vision together with the development teams around the world who are currently developing the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.”

Gerighty will continue to oversee Star Wars Outlaws until its launch, so The Division 3 is still some ways off. In the meantime, Ubisoft intends to continue supporting The Division 2. While the project is still very early, here’s what Gerighty hopes to bring to The Division 3…

“We may have over 40 million players, but The Division is still in its early years as a franchise. There are so many incredible stories to tell, places to explore and people to protect. I think that we delivered that with The Division’s cutting-edge visuals, incredible gameplay, and promise to the player that they can’t get this experience anywhere else, and then again with The Division 2. It’s about refinement, it’s about pushing the quality bar consistently forward.”

What do you think? Excited for another core entry in The Division series? Or has the series lost its spark?
