Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for Good Omens Season 2.

The second season of Good Omens is a treasure trove of hidden references and callbacks to previous seasons and the book. With over 200 Easter Eggs waiting to be discovered, the show pays tribute to Terry Pratchett, the co-author of Good Omens, in various ways. Pratchett’s hat and scarf are prominently displayed in Aziraphale’s bookshop, serving as a reminder of his contribution.

Throughout the season, there are clever movie and book references that foreshadow the events and nod to the relationships in Good Omens. Fans eagerly awaited the arrival of the highly anticipated second season, and after watching all six episodes, they were left with plenty to process. In an interview before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Michael Sheen and David Tennant hinted at the abundance of hidden references and assured fans that they were in for a delightful treat.

On August 4th, Prime Video will release the full extent of the bonus features for the season, allowing viewers to uncover all 200+ Easter eggs and callbacks. While we wait, here are some of our favorite references from our first viewing of Good Omens Season 2.

The Bentley’s motor crank takes on a deeper meaning in Season 2. In the opening sequence, we discover that Crowley used the motor crank to create the universe, linking it to the restarting of time in Season 1. The motor crank symbolizes Crowley’s power to initiate new beginnings.

The season also pays tribute to characters who did not return in Season 2. Artifacts like a painting of Agnes Nutter being burned at the stake and Wensleydale’s magazine collection serve as subtle reminders of their presence.

Muriel, a new character in Season 2, has a lovable and naive personality. Observant David Tennant fans may notice that Muriel’s uniform pays homage to Tennant’s previous role in the radio adaptation of Dixon Of Dock Green.

Season 2 also features exciting cameos, including David Tennant’s father-in-law Peter Davidson and his son Ty Tennant. The League of Gentlemen members Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith, and Mark Gatiss also reunite in Episode 4.

Book lovers will appreciate the various references to the Good Omens novel in Season 2. Gabriel’s unique method of shelving books alphabetically based on the first letter of their opening sentence adds a touch of humor. The show also includes nods to famous passages from the book, such as Crowley using The Wicked Bible as a fly swatter.

Doctor Who enthusiasts will find plenty of connections in Season 2. Not only do David Tennant and Michael Sheen have ties to the show, but the season also features references to Doctor Who, including the use of the Doctor Who theme on a harpsichord and the appearance of the TARDIS in the background.

Sherlock fans will also appreciate Mark Gatiss’ return and the direct reference to Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Hound of the Baskervilles” when Crowley suggests taking Gabriel to Dartmoor.

Film buffs will have a field day with the numerous movie references in Season 2. From movies playing in the background to subtle nods, there’s plenty to discover. Highlights include The Spirit of St Louis and The Red Shoes.

Rom-com lovers will enjoy the influence of Richard Curtis films and Pride and Prejudice in Season 2. Aziraphale and Crowley draw inspiration from these classics as they strategize to bring two characters together.

Finally, Season 2 pays homage to Terry Pratchett in various ways. His hat and scarf are prominently featured in Aziraphale’s bookshop, and his novel The Color of Magic makes an appearance in the show.

Good Omens Season 2 is a true treasure trove of hidden references and clever callbacks. Fans will undoubtedly enjoy scouring the episodes for Easter eggs, and the bonus features will provide even more delights. The show continues to honor the legacy of Terry Pratchett while captivating audiences with its wit and creativity.
