‘Roswell Delirium’ Trailer: The Aliens Have Landed

The highly anticipated Film “Roswell Delirium” by director Richard Bakewell offers a captivating blend of sci-fi and nostalgia, drawing inspiration from popular series like “Stranger Things” and the storytelling style of the ’80s. The movie delves into profound themes such as mental illness, abuse, bullying, and psychological trauma against the backdrop of a Soviet nuclear attack. However, what sets “Roswell Delirium” apart is its unique portrayal of aliens as peaceful beings, and the town’s belief that Spacerock, an area that was once home to Area 51, serves as a sanctuary for their healing.

Sci-fi films that explore galaxies and alternate worlds have always captivated audiences. Recognizing this, director Richard Bakewell embarked on creating his upcoming feature-length film, “Roswell Delirium.” Set in an alternate 1980s United States ravaged by nuclear attacks, the exclusive trailer released by Collider introduces us to the survivors trying to navigate this post-apocalyptic world. Our protagonist, Mayday (played by Kylee Levien), a young girl, uses her collection of ham radios to communicate with her father who is on a space mission. However, instead of her father, she stumbles upon extraterrestrial lifeforms who lead her on a thrilling adventure to Spacerock, a mysterious plot of land that was once the site of Area 51.

In a recent email interview with Collider’s Maggie Boccella, Bakewell shared that “Roswell Delirium” goes beyond your typical alien movie, featuring multiple layers that enrich the story. Banking on the immense popularity of nostalgic storytelling seen in hits like “Stranger Things,” Bakewell promises to sprinkle the film with plenty of ’80s nostalgia and Easter Eggs. Like other directors who incorporate family trauma into their productions, Bakewell also delves into themes of mental illness, abuse, bullying, and psychological trauma. Contrary to classic extraterrestrial tales like “Independence Day” or “Mars Attacks!,” the film portrays aliens not as monsters or killers but as lifelines for survival. The characters in the movie develop a deep bond with Spacerock, believing it to be a safe haven where aliens can help them recover.

“Roswell Delirium” boasts a star-studded cast with iconic actors from classic features of the past. The likes of Reginald VelJohnson, Anthony Michael Hall, Sam J. Jones, Dee Wallace, and Lisa Whelchel grace the screen, injecting the film with a touch of nostalgia. Bakewell reflects on his experiences working with these legends, praising Jones for his sense of humor, Wallace for her emotional performances, and Whelchel for her focused and dedicated work ethic. Teaming up with Hall, a personal favorite of Bakewell’s, was a dream come true, as he had admired the actor since his early days in the industry.

Bakewell also shares insights into his previous work as a cinematographer on projects like “Wahl Street,” “Beat Shazam,” and “Mission Unstoppable” with Miranda Cosgrove. He views cinematography as a valuable skill acquired after film school and emphasizes the importance of listening to actors and understanding their rhythm. Bakewell’s experience has earned him the trust of the actors he works with, allowing him to establish a strong collaboration on set.

While the film showcases a visually stunning meeting place for the aliens known as Spacerock, it might surprise audiences to know that Spacerock is inspired by a real rock formation called Shiprock in New Mexico. This rock formation holds great significance in the religion, traditions, and stories of the Navajo Nation. Rising over 1,500 feet above the desert floor, Shiprock is a prominent landmark that can be spotted from miles away. Although “Roswell Delirium” places Area 51, Roswell, and Spacerock in the same vicinity, it’s worth noting that Roswell is located in southern New Mexico, while Shiprock is in the northwestern corner of the state and Area 51 is in Groom Lake, Nevada.

Prepare to be enthralled as your favorite ’80s stars unite for an otherworldly cinematic event in “Roswell Delirium.” Don’t miss out on this film, set to release later this year. Watch the exciting trailer below!
