Introducing Samsung’s Latest Galaxy S21 FE: A Noteworthy Addition

Samsung officially launched the refreshed Galaxy S21 FE in India, featuring an upgraded Snapdragon 888 chip and 256GB of base storage. However, the phone may not receive significant software updates. The rumors and teases surrounding the re-release of the Galaxy S21 FE turned out to be true. Samsung India quietly introduced the new model, replacing the original Exynos variant with the Snapdragon 888 chipset and increasing the base storage from 128GB to 256GB. While the increase in storage capacity is welcomed, the decision to swap out the Exynos 2100 chipset for the Snapdragon 888 chipset is disappointing, as both chips are considered mediocre compared to newer options available on the market. In terms of performance, the Snapdragon model outperforms the Exynos model in GPU performance and sustained performance, but the Exynos model delivers better battery life. The refreshed S21 FE retains most of the other features from the original release, such as a 6.4-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED screen, 8GB of RAM, a 4,500mAh battery with Wireless Charging support, and an IP68 rating. It also maintains the same triple rear camera system. One major downside is that the refreshed S21 FE might not receive a significant software update pledge. Although the phone runs on Android 12, Samsung customer support stated that it will only be updated until Android 14, which is surprising considering that the standard S21 FE is expected to receive updates up to Android 15 or 16. The new Galaxy S21 FE is priced at Rs 49,999 (~$607) and comes in Graphite, Lavender, Olive, White, and a new Navy color option. However, there are better options available in India at this price point, especially if you’re not concerned about wireless charging and water resistance. The OnePlus 11R, priced at Rs 39,999, offers a superior Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, a higher resolution screen, a larger battery with faster wired charging, and a longer update pledge, all at a significantly lower price. Additionally, Nothing is set to launch the Phone 2 in India today, which is expected to be cheaper than the re-released S21 FE and features the superior Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, wireless charging, and a longer update promise. If you value wireless charging and a significant IP rating, the Google Pixel 7 provides a well-rounded package at a price of Rs 47,999, offering a capable processor, an IP68 rating, wireless charging, excellent image quality, and a lengthy update pledge. With strong competition from other brands like Motorola, realme, IQOO, and POCO, Samsung will have to compete fiercely in the Indian market with the new Galaxy S21 FE. However, this release allows Samsung to clear excess S21 FE stock.
