New rating sparks rumors of a possible Red Dead Redemption remaster

A potential Remaster of the critically acclaimed game Red Dead Redemption seems to be in the works, as a new age rating has recently surfaced for the game.

As discovered by Gematsu, a new rating has appeared on the Game Rating and Administration Committee of South Korea (GRAC) for the console version of Red Dead Redemption, originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360. Although the rating is specifically for a console version, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of a PC release. Notably, the GRAC had previously rated the original version of Red Dead Redemption, indicating that this could be a new release.

Last year, there were rumors about a potential remaster for Red Dead Redemption, as well as for GTA 4. However, these projects were reportedly put on hold following the negative reception of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Sources cited by Kotaku revealed that Rockstar is aware of the overwhelming demand for a modern release of the original Red Dead Redemption. Initially, the projects were thought to be abandoned, but it has now been disclosed that the Red Dead Redemption Remaster was simply on pause and could potentially be released around the launch of GTA 6 or afterward.

Red Dead Redemption, which originally launched in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360, served as a sequel to the 2004 game Red Dead Revolver. It received critical acclaim and was a commercial success. The game also spawned a standalone expansion called Undead Nightmare, which introduced a zombie-infested alternate timeline. At the moment, there is no information on whether Undead Nightmare will be included in the remastered edition, so fans will have to wait for an official announcement.
