Ubisoft Announces Free Weekend Access for Far Cry 5, Including PS5 and Xbox Series S/X with 60fps Patch

Ubisoft has released a 60fps patch for Far Cry 5 on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions, coinciding with the game’s fifth-anniversary celebration. This update, along with new content, is available for free. From March 23 to March 27, players can enjoy a free weekend trial of Far Cry 5 on all consoles and PC, with progress carrying over if they decide to purchase the game. Furthermore, there is an 85% discount on Far Cry 5 across Ubisoft Connect, Microsoft Store, and the PlayStation store.

The 60fps patch applies to all game modes, including the main DLCs: Lost on Mars, Hours of Darkness, and Dead Living Zombies. Xbox Series X players can now run the game at 4K resolution, while the Xbox Series S supports full-HD 1080p resolution. On the other hand, PS5 users can experience Far Cry 5 at 3K resolution. Ubisoft’s decision to release a next-gen patch for a game that is five years old is unusual, but they have promised even more announcements in the coming weeks.

Set in the southern gothic landscape of Hope County, Far Cry 5 immerses players in the role of an unnamed junior deputy sheriff. The objective is to take down Joseph Seed, a charismatic doomsday cult leader, and liberate different regions from his Heralds with the help of various factions. The game features exploration, combat, and a variety of melee weapons. Players can also enjoy clearing outposts and utilizing the map editor and co-op mode. The free weekend is an excellent opportunity to try the game with a friend.

In recent news, Ubisoft shed light on their game delays and cancellations, citing the need to streamline production. The company canceled three undisclosed projects and delayed the highly anticipated Skull and Bones naval combat title for the sixth time. Additionally, Beyond Good and Evil 2 faced developmental setbacks as the studio’s managing director left, resulting in a lack of a creative vision.

Far Cry 5’s 60fps patch is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. The free weekend starts on March 23 and lasts until March 27, encompassing PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
