Minecraft’s Decision: Moving Away from Reddit due to API Changes

Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, has recently announced a change in how they will communicate official updates for the game. Instead of using Reddit, they will now utilize the Minecraft website or other social media platforms for these announcements. This decision was made due to recent changes in Reddit’s API and overall management. Sliced_lime, a Reddit user claiming to be a Minecraft developer (also known as Mikael Hedberg), shared this information on the platform. Mojang has yet to disclose which social media platform they will adopt, but GameSpot has reached out for further details.

The alterations in Reddit’s rules and moderation have resulted in discontent among various subreddit moderators. As a form of protest, many of these subreddits have gone private, rendering their content inaccessible. Notably, more than 7,000 subreddits, including popular ones like r/funny, r/aww, r/gaming, and r/music, have participated in this movement.
