Introducing “Hype Chat” Exclusively for Twitch Partners
Twitch continues to revolutionize content creator monetization, but not every update is without its drawbacks. The recent changes to revenue splits have been met with mixed feelings, as the new program comes with certain requirements that limit its benefits.
In another potentially controversial move, Twitch has just announced the introduction of “Hype Chat” in a recent blog post. This feature gives viewers the ability to purchase Chat messages, with the intention of allowing users to “stand out” in the chat community.
The cost for these chat messages ranges from $1 to $500, although streamers have the option to set a minimum amount of up to $100. The amount paid determines the duration, character length, and visual design of the pinned comment. Streamers also have the opportunity to earn a share of the revenue from each Hype Chat purchase.
However, not all streamers will have access to this new feature. As mentioned in the blog post, Hype Chat is currently only available to Twitch Partners, leaving smaller channels unable to participate. Twitch, owned by Amazon, does mention the possibility of expanding this feature to a wider audience in the future.
Despite this new development, some may argue that it’s too late for Twitch to regain the support of certain creators. Influential streamers like xQc and Amouranth have already moved to rival platform Kick, presenting a challenge for Twitch. However, it’s important to note that Twitch still boasts millions of users each month.
