All the details on AMD’s announcement of the next-generation Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud

During the Data Center and AI Technology Premiere, AMD has announced its continued partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and has introduced the next generation of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances, powered by 4th Gen Amd Epyc Processors.

“AWS has been collaborating with AMD since 2018 to offer Amazon EC2 instances to customers. Today, we are witnessing a growing demand from customers to bring new types of applications to AWS, including financial applications, application servers, video transcoding, and simulation modeling,” said David Brown, vice president of Amazon EC2 at AWS. “By combining the performance of 4th Gen Amd Epyc processors with the AWS Nitro System, we are advancing cloud technology to enable our customers to accomplish more with better performance on a wider variety of Amazon EC2 instances.”

The new Amazon EC2 M7a instances, using 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors, are now available in preview. These instances offer new processor capabilities such as AVX3-512, VNNI, and BFloat16, and provide customers with up to 50 percent more compute performance than M6a instances, allowing them to handle a broader range of workloads on AWS.

Since starting their collaboration with AWS in 2018, AMD now offers over 100 EPYC processor-based instances for general purpose, compute optimized, memory optimized, and high-performance computing workloads. Customers like DNT, Sprinklr, and TrueCar have all experienced significant cost savings and improved cloud utilization through the use of AMD-based Amazon EC2 instances.

Additionally, AMD has announced its products, strategy, and ecosystem partners that will drive the future of computing, showcasing the next phase of data center innovation. AMD was joined on stage by executives from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Citadel, HuggingFace, Meta, Microsoft Azure, and PyTorch to demonstrate the technological partnerships with industry leaders in bringing high-performance CPU and AI accelerator solutions to the market.
