Sony is releasing PlayStation VR 2 in less than a week, and in addition to a new VR headset entering the market, a substantial amount of games have been confirmed to launch alongside the PlayStation VR2. While most are multiplatform, some utilize new technologies exclusively found on the headset, such as haptic Feedback and adaptive triggers. Others are also exclusive to PS VR2, such as Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
If you ordered a PS VR2 or are planning to buy one shortly after release, here is a list of every confirmed launch title coming to the headset when it releases on February 22. Note any games coming after launch day are not included, even if they’re been announced and confirmed to launch within its first year.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain
Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a collaboration between Guerrilla Games and Firesprite and is the first spinoff set in the same world as 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn and 2022’s Horizon Forbidden West.
This first-party exclusive is made for the PlayStation VR2, not just a VR mode. As such, Horizon: Call of the Mountain will take advantage of the PS VR2 hardware, such as haptic feedback, so you will feel what it is like to do things such as crafting tools and firing your bow.
Resident Evil Village
One of many optional VR modes that will likely make its way onto PS VR2, 2021’s Resident Evil Village’s VR outing is exclusive to Sony’s second headset. It’s not the first time Resident Evil has been on VR – Resident Evil’s 4 and 7 have appeared previously – and they’re foundation on which Resident Evil Village’s VR mode is built. It will therefore be a free upgrade for anyone who owns the game on PS5, plus it features actions not available in the standard game, most notably the ability to hold two guns at once.
Gran Turismo 7
Those who bought Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 will be delighted to know it’s getting a VR mode on PS VR2. While it’s not the series’ first outing in virtual reality, it’s certainly the most impressive from what we’ve seen.
As noted in the PS Blog post, Gran Turismo 7’s VR mode adds a new level of “claustrophobia and danger (in a good way),” which adds to the level of immersion. IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey supported this claim in a recent video, explaining that the experience “feels the closest to sitting in your dream car” and that haptic shakes when you hit a wall really bring it to life.
2MD: VR Football Unleashed All-Star
2MD VR Football Unleashed All-Star is one of two gridiron football games making its way to PS VR 2 at launch and adds plenty of new features to make this multiplatform VR game stand out from other ports. Features include 4K 90Hz visuals and adjusting the strength of the HMD Haptics so you can feel tackles in-game.
After the Fall – Complete Edition
After the Fall – Complete Edition is an upcoming four-player co-op game where you fight off zombies,, offering cross-play support with the original Psvr. It also uses PS VR2’s tech to add a new level of immersion, such as feeling your hands sliding the rack of your gun in the middle of a firefight.
Altair Breaker
Altair Breaker is a sword fighting game where you and up to three other players battle automatons. Although there’s little detail about how it takes advantage of PS VR2 tech, the studio does note this port will “allow players to experience sword fighting action” unique to virtual reality and includes all of the post-launch content that came with the Meta Quest and Steam versions.
Cave Digger 2
A sequel to 2018’s Cave Digger, this action-adventure has you exploring different locations, from mines to ruins of ancient civilizations. Cave Digger 2’s PS VR2 port will use the Sense Controller’s adaptive triggers, boast improved graphics over the first PSVR, and has headset feedback support.
Cities VR: Enhanced Edition
City-building and management sim Cities VR: Enhanced Edition has you overseeing and managing a city as you deem fit. The PS VR2 port apparently takes advantage of the headset’s technology by allowing you to feel things when building parts of your city.
Cosmonious High
From the studio behind titles like Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, Job Simulator, and Vacation Simulator, Owlchemy Labs’ latest is 2022’s Cosmonious High, an adventure game released in 2022 on Meta Quest 2 and PC VR.
In a blog post announcing the game, Owlchemy dived deeper into what fans can expect from the PS VR2 port of Cosmonious High, including how players will be able to feel the “wind, water, and even balls of paint” when interacting with objects in-game, thanks to the PSVR2’s Sense Controllers.
Creed Rise to Glory – Championship Edition
Released in 2018, Creed: Rise to Glory – Championship Edition is an enhanced port of Survios’ boxing game based on the Creed movies. Championship Edition includes new content, such as new game modes and settings to enhance immersion.
Demeo
Turn-based tactical adventure Demeo attempts to recreate the “fun of tabletop gaming.” Play solo or online with up to four players; it’s still unclear what PS VR2 exclusive features it will offer, but the port will offer crossplay support with the PC version.
Drums Rock
Drums Rock is an arcade drum game originally released last year, in which you assume the role of a rock hero fending off the demons of hell to a soundtrack of hard rock and heavy metal. Developer Garage51 confirmed the PS VR2 version will utilize the headset’s technology, like using eye tracking to obtain higher scores and haptic feedback in the Sense controllers to make the drums feel more realistic while playing.
Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate
Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate is an anime-style sci-fi criminal investigation game spread across three episodes. Although only the first two episodes are available, the third episode is slated to launch sometime in 2023.
Fantavision 202X
Fantavision is a puzzle game originally released in 2000 on PlayStation 2. Fantavision 202X is an all-new iteration designed for PS VR2 and powered by Unreal Engine 5. Combining action, shooting, strategy, and puzzles, developer Cosmo Machia promises to take advantage of the PS VR2 headset and Sense controllers to provide “an immersive experience for you to fill the star-studded sky with sparkling fireworks.”
Garden of the Sea
One of the more wholesome games in the PS VR2 launch lineup, Garden of the Sea has players transported onto a small island set in a fantasy world where you turn the resort island into a home, from growing your garden to befriending and tending the local wildlife.
Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator
Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator are launching alongside the PS VR2 on February 22. Anyone who owned either game on the original PSVR will receive the subsequent PS VR2 version free of charge. These ports offer shorter load times and use PS VR2’s haptics to enhance immersion.
Jurassic World Aftermath Collection
Jurassic World Aftermath Collection is a survival adventure where players are trapped in an abandoned research facility with the goal of trying to escape and avoid dinosaurs. It’s set between Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom and Aftermath Collection’s VR mode is optional – no surprise given it’s also available on Nintendo Switch – but no VR-exclusive features have been revealed.
Kayak VR: Mirage
If you ever wanted to paddle through scenic locations such as Costa Rica and Antarctica, Kayak VR: Mirage is for you. Developer Better Than Life’s realistic and oddly satisfying sim takes advantage of PS VR2’s tech by providing a sharper and more vibrant virtual world for you to explore.
Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat!
Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat! is another title that will include an optional VR mode you can use with PS VR2. The PS5 version (like the PC port) includes improved graphics, though there’s no much information on how – or if –it will use PSVR2’s other tech like the Sense Controller’s haptics.
Moss & Moss: Book II
Poly’s duology of action-adventure games launches alongside the PS VR2. In addition to improved visuals, the PS VR2 ports of Moss and Moss: Book II offer haptics that allows players to feel attacks and movement.
Interestingly, both will use the PS VR2’s Sense controllers to recreate the tension and weight of virtual objects, so you can feel how much force it takes to break pots and barrels.
NFL Pro Era
NFL Pro Era launched just a few months back and is the first fully licensed NFL game to take advantage of real-time game data. No details on PS VR2-exclusive features have been shared yet, but hopefully, haptics will help players feel every sack.
No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky will have a free VR update for those that own the game on PS5. While Hello Games has not dived too much into what to expect with PS VR2, we do know the developer plans to take advantage of the PS5, PS VR2, and Sense controllers hardware, combining all “to take that sense of immersion and believability up by several notches.”
Pavlov VR
Pavlov VR is a multiplayer shooter in which you fend off waves of the undead, either by yourself or with up to three friends. While Vankrupt Games has not shared what PS VR2-exclusive features will be included on this port, the game’s Steam page notes it offers “realistic reloading features,” so we hope the Sense controller’s haptics and adaptive triggers will be optimized for shooting and reloading.
Pistol Whip
Cloudhead’s Pistol Whip offers a free upgrade to PS VR2 owners, provided you own the original. It’s an on-rails shooter that fuses action, FPS, and rhythm genres into a vibrant, fast-paced, and colorful experience. The PS VR2 version is confirmed to support 4K HDR, SSD optimization, 3D audio, and finger touch detection.
Puzzling Places
Puzzling Places is a relaxing 3D jigsaw puzzle game that, on PS VR2, supports a 120Hz refresh rate, sharper textures, and a higher resolution. It also takes advantage of eye tracking to provide enhanced piece selection and room-scale support.
Rez Infinite
Rez Infinite was a launch title for the original PSVR back in 2016, and is a launch game once again for PS VR2. Thanks to the headset’s eye tracking, you can track and aim at enemies, plus the headset and controllers boast feedback. However, there’s no free upgrade option – it will cost $10 to upgrade, even if you have the original PSVR game.
Song in the Smoke: Rekindled
Song in the Smoke: Rekindled is a survival action-adventure game where you craft, hunt, and fend off dangerous organisms, and is an enhanced version of 2021 original released on PSVR, PC, VR, and Meta Quest. The PS VR2 version also features an all-new free jump and clamber mode.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition
ILMxLAB’s Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition brings the notable Quest shooter onto PS VR2. While it’s not the first Star Wars game set in virtual reality, it’s inspired by Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
ILMxLAB claims the audio and haptics on PS VR2 will play a key part in the experience, noting that this version will allow players to “hear the soundscape surround you” thanks to 3D audio, while the haptics will allow you to feel even the small details found in-game.
Synth Riders: Remastered Edition
Perp Games’ Synth Riders: Remastered Edition is a freestyle dance game similar in style to Beat Saber. The remastered edition has improved visuals and implements controller haptics and headset feedback to help better immerse players, while SSD optimization reduces load times. If you already own the PSVR version you’ll receive a free upgrade, including any music DLC purchased.
Swordsman VR
Create your own avatar and venture off to fight enemies and save the world from evil in Swordsman VR. While the premise is straightforward, the physics-based medieval combat offers plenty of opportunity to use the PS VR2’s haptics and headset feedback to really make it feel like you are a sword-fighting knight. Those who own the original PSVR version get the PSVR2 upgrade at no extra cost.
Tentacular
Tentacular is a physics-based adventure where you play as a giant, tentacled beast trying to help island residents by building structures and gadgets to solve puzzles. It will use PS VR2’s audio-based haptics to add an extra layer of fidelity and tactile feedback to hear things such as an ocean breeze, while adaptive triggers allow you to feel the weight of objects you pick up with your virtual tentacles.
Tetris Effect
2018’s Tetris Effect was another runaway hit when it was initially released on PSVR. While it has made its way to other platforms since, the upcoming PS VR2 version promises to use eye tracking and haptic and headset feedback. If you own the original PS4/PSVR version an upgrade will cost $9.99.
The Last Clockwinder
The Last Clockwinder is a puzzle game where you use your automatons to repair the Clocktower. Developer Pontoco has not shared much on the type of features coming to the PS VR2 version, but we know you will create contraptions and clones to help harvest resources and grow plants.
The Light Brigade
Roguelike VR shooter The Light Brigade casts players as humanity’s last line of defense, tasked with freeing the souls of the fallen. The game mixes historical with magic abilities and developer Funktronic Labs has confirmed it’s a cross-buy purchase, meaning you get both the PSVR and PS VR2 versions.
The Tale of Onogoro
The Tale of Onogoro is an action-adventure that fuses Japanese culture and steampunk. The developer has yet to share what new features are coming to PS VR2.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution will support higher visual fidelity on PS VR2, as well as more precise hand tracking and 3D audio. Anyeon who owns the game on PSVR will receive the PS VR2 version at no additional cost.
Thumper
Thumper is already available on multiple platforms, including smartphones, but the PS VR2 port promises to be one of the more interesting ways to play as it includes support for 3D audio, 4K visuals, and uses the Sense controller’s haptic feedback.
Townsmen
A genre-fusion with God-game sims and classic building, Townsmen VR has you starting from the humble beginning of a small settlement and the opportunity to expand to over 13 islands and archipelagos. The developer HandyGames notes that the game will use the headset’s haptic feedback to allow you to feel certain effects, such as earthquakes.
Unplugged: Air Guitar …
If you enjoyed the Guitar Hero games and are trying to somehow fill that void, Unplugged: Air Guitar might be for you. As the name implies, Unplugged: Air Guitar lets you play an air guitar and jam out to some of the biggest rock songs from the last several decades.
What the Bat?
What the Bat? is a slapstick comedy game in which you live your life using a baseball bat to do everything. It’s a bit like What the Golf?, but with a baseball bat. No word on what improvements might be coming to the PS VR2 version as yet.
Zenith: The Last City
Zenith: The Last City is an anime VR MMORPG that launched a little over a year ago on Meta Quest 2, PSVR, and PC VR. This version takes advantage of PS VR2’s new tech, most notably faster loading speeds and adaptive triggers that feedback during combat. If you already own the game on PSVR you get a free upgrade for PS VR2.
Zombieland VR: Headshot
Light gun-style shooter Zombieland: Headshot Fever is an enhanced version of the 2021 original and is based on the Zombieland movies. This port takes advantage of the controller haptics and adaptive triggers to make every weapon feel distinct from the rest, while the headset feedback is used to make it feel like the hordes of undead are actually approaching you.
