New Orleans Trailer Takes it Back to 2000

While many of us make countless mistakes during our younger years, we rarely get a second chance to right those wrongs. Luckily this isn’t the case for the cast of The Real World Homecoming: New Orleans. The seven strangers who were picked to live in the city of Mardi Gras together and have their lives taped all the way back in 2000 are returning 22 years later. Who will have changed and, maybe even more importantly, who has stayed the same? A trailer released by the show’s home network of Paramount+ gives us a little insight into just that.

The reunion will see the full original cast returning, once again mixing up the personalities of David “Tokyo” Broom, Melissa Howard, Jamie Murray, Danny Roberts, Matt Smith, Julie Stoffer, and Kelley Wolf. Drama abounds in the sneak peek that shows the roommates descending on The Big Easy and checking into their new digs. Catching up fans with a flashback to the original series, the trailer cuts to confessionals featuring the grown-up members of the cast. While, at first, civility reigns supreme, things kick-off when the original season’s villain, Stoffer, makes her appearance. Raised in the Mormon church, Stoffer would fight, scream, and straight-up appall her flatmates and audiences alike with some of her world views. Now back to face it all, the trailer teases conversational reckonings between Stoffer and several of her The Real World compatriots.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Teasing another unveiling, the trailer gave us a hint that they may be showing a person who had previously been blurred out. An out gay man, housemate Roberts, was at the time dating a member of the military named Paul. Because of the government’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy handling those in the armed services, Paul was forced to have his face covered in order to protect his identity. Now, it sounds like Roberts and Paul may meet up and expose Paul’s facial features for the first time. As the trailer chugs along, many of the housemates reference themselves growing up and the idea that they could now handle things differently than how they did over two decades ago. With a mix of torn apart friendships, emotional scars, and, of course, a sizable portion of alcohol, it looks like things will be once again getting real in New Orleans.
