Krafton has not revealed whether its India edition of PUBG Mobile, Battlegrounds Mobile India will be getting a Lite version. The official website for Battlegrounds Mobile India, throughout its different pages and FAQs, doesn’t have any mention of a Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite release date.

This doesn’t seem to be the case with Battlegrounds Mobile India, most likely due to its specifications that ensure there’s no Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite version needed.

It is worth noting, however, that Battlegrounds Mobile India’s hardware requirement on Google Play list just Android 5.1.1 or higher, and 2GB of RAM. This essentially means that just about every modern Android smartphone should be able to play the game at launch. It might be why Krafton doesn’t see the need for a Lite version of Battlegrounds Mobile India.

PUBG Mobile got a Lite release shortly after its original launch to ensure a wider audience for the game. Since the Lite version has much lower hardware requirements for smartphones, players with lower-end devices could play PUBG Mobile alongside players with flagship smartphones. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Battlegrounds Mobile India.

Pre-registrations for Battlegrounds Mobile India went live earlier this week. Pre-registration rewards players with a few in-game items, including a Recon Mask, Recon Outfit, Celebration Expert Title, and 300AG, which is the in-game currency to buy cosmetics. It is worth noting that the pre-registration rewards will not be available once the game is finally released.

The pre-registration rewards are likely a way for Krafton to give players a taste of what Battlegrounds Mobile India has to offer in terms of cosmetics, with the hopes of further monetising its Indian playerbase. For reference, at its peak, PUBG Mobile’s revenue from India sat at around the $3 million mark.

While pre-registrations are live, there is still no solid word of a release date for Battlegrounds Mobile India. According to the game’s official website, “We are still in the process of finalising the launch date, we will keep our fans informed on further developments.”

Sources in the industry have told IGN India on the condition of anonymity state that the game’s release date will be around June 18. Though given recent developments surrounding Krafton’s use of the term ‘PUBG Mobile’, this may change.
