Despite being the initiators of the Cloud gaming movement this generation, some features on X-Cloud are lacking. One of those features is the inability to use your purchased library of games over the Cloud. PlayStation offered that in 2023 with PlayStation Plus Premium but Xbox did not have that support.

But as of today, it seems this feature will be added to Xbox Cloud Gaming users sooner rather than later.

The Cloud Expands – Purchased Games Get Cloud Support

Discovered by Windows Club and reported on by IdleSloth, purchased games are beginning to show up on Xbox Cloud Streaming. The service only supported Game Pass releases and Fortnite as of this writing, but a user discovered Call of Duty (a game they bought) was streamable over the Cloud.

It is worth noting that Xbox publicly commented on this months ago, promising the feature would be coming to Xbox platform users.

“We’re excited to share that later this year, it’s our intent to roll out the ability for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play, from the cloud, select games they already own or have purchased outside the Xbox Game Pass library,” says Will Tuttle, Xbox Wire editor in chief.

So they are listening to fan desires. We will report on any future developments as they happen.

Overall Thoughts

X-Cloud as a service is one I find interesting. Being able to play something so input-demanding over Cloud is crazy to me. Since I was growing up playing my Game Boy Color or Nintendo GameCube, I never even considered being able to play those games over the internet.

But it’s gaming’s logical evolution, with the rise of streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney Plus. People want to instantly access their content and that’s one way to accomplish that.

With Xbox slowly becoming a platform across multiple formats, ensuring libraries people invested in work across the Cloud is critical for their vision. And seeing them begin implementing that now is fantastic. Considering the Xbox Games Showcase is nearly a month and change away as of this writing, we will likely hear more soon.
