Time to Make History – More Persona Remakes on the Way (Rumor)

Remakes and remasters are all the rage as of late. From horror classics like Dead Space too even Wii-era platformers like Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, many games are getting second chances. Persona as a franchise got a huge shot in the arm recently once it went multiplatform. And after the success of Persona 3 Reload, more remakes are seemingly on the way.

Persona Remakes On the Way

When asked on Twitter/X about other games in the series getting the Reload treatment, insider Midori gave some interesting comments on the matter.

Regarding Persona 4, they stated that game is getting the Persona 3 Reload treatment. And when asked about Persona 1 and 2, they commented that they would get more ‘authentic’ remakes.

Do We Need Persona Remakes?

The idea of Persona 4 matching the visual and gameplay quality of Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal is very appealing. That game exuded such a unique vibe when compared to other games in the series, focusing on a small town instead of a larger city or port island.

In addition, the fixes to Tartarus made in Persona 3 Reload could be huge boons for a Persona 4 remake. That game and it’s Golden release had dungeons that were randomly generated. Using the systems Reloads Tartarus utilized or even giving them original dungeons like Persona 5 did would be amazing.

But the games that need a remake or remaster the most have to be the original Persona’s that started it all. Persona and Persona 2 are unavailable on modern platforms. If you have a PS Vita, you could play it via the PSP ‘Remasters’ Atlus released.

A simple remaster of that PSP version, not unlike the port of Persona 3 Portable on modern consoles would be nice. But a proper remake, bring both games on the mechanical and presentation level of modern-day Persona would be very interesting. Or maybe Atlus does both.

They did that in regards to Persona 3, giving people a ‘remaster’ for Portable while also providing a proper remake with Reload. Considering how that resulted in critical and commercial success, this could be the route they take.

When Will Persona Remake Release?

If I was a betting man, I would suggest they release sometime after the launch of Persona 6. That might be sooner than we think.

Atlus recently just released Persona 3 Reload and are set to release SMTV: Vengeance in June 2024. In addition, they are also releasing major DLC for Reload later this year and a major release with Metaphor: ReFantazio Fall 2024.

With 2025 looking open for Persona content, that year could have Persona and Persona 2 remasters, ending with Persona 6 launching. Regarding a Persona 4 remake, that likely is very far out. And hopefully they learn from the DLC plans they’ve had this year when that releases.

Closing Thoughts on the news

Persona as a franchise is no stranger to putting itself out there, with 2024 being a busy year with Persona 3 Reload and launches for the mobile/PC venture that is Persona 5X. But remakes for games people likely haven’t played and a classic many fondly remember from the Vita, excite me greatly.

I may be ‘Lord Sonic’ but the amount of hours I put across Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5, and Persona 5 Royal would make one’s eyes go bug eyed. I love this series and I can’t wait to see how they go about remaking other installments in the series.

But what do you all think? Will you keep an eye out for some more Persona? Let us know in the comments below!
