Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance – The Sacrifice Trailer Breakdown

Atlus is doing well as a publisher and developer this year. From launching the stellar Persona 3 Reload, that faithfully remade such an important to them. With The Answer launching later in the year. To publishing Vanillaware’s incredibly popular Unicorn Overlord, and still having Metaphor Refantazio later this year. They are injecting a lot of JRPG greatness into this year’s line of killer titles. This also includes their upcoming rerelease Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. Atlus has been ramping up the marketing on the game since it is only a few months away.

Yesterday they officially launched the english version of the second promotional video for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, called “The Sacrifice”. Here is everything we learned from the trailer!

New Boss Encounters, and Allies Join Your Fights

For starters, the game looks really good and it appears to be running on the PlayStation 5. Indicated by the button prompts.

Something that briefly happened in the original story of Shin Megami Tensei 5, is that certain side characters joined the Nahobino in some encounters. That feature seems like it will be returning in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. All of the gameplay and cutscenes from the trailer are taken from the Canon of Vengeance story route. Where it shows one of the new characters, Yoko casting spells in what appears to be the second area of Da’at. With Dazai, the wannabe influencer summoning demons in an encounter as well. It seems as though there will be a lot more companionship with the side characters.

There also seems like there will be a lot of boss fights with the Qadistu. A team of four demons that wants to return the world to a state they remember it being. They showed off a boss encounter with Eisheth. Who can seemingly steal health in a very graphic attack.

They also showed off a move that all four of the Qadistu can cast together in a fight against them all. It has a very dark look to it and seems like it’s very devastating.

But this attack transitioned to the coolest part of the trailer that talked about more interactions with the world along your journey.

New Nahobino Form, and More Demon and Human Interactions in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance

I am not sure if the attack during the aforementioned boss fight with the Qadistu will trigger this sequence. But the Nahobino is shown dying and either lets go of who he is and embraces the full form with Aogami or if there is something else at play. As the Nahobino gets a more grey and purple toned form. With his signature sword-hands becoming more curved.

The aesthetic reminds me more of a shinobi, and the attack style is equally deadly. What all this form will do beyond what was shown is still unknown. But in the trailer they also showed off a whole slew of new interactions with the Demons and side characters. For starters, you can find areas that will feature “Demon Haunts”:

This feature may not be limited to just Da’at. As there is a section with the main character in the human world interacting with Demons as described above.

There also seems to be a lot of new cutscenes with the rest of the main cast. They showed a scene where Yoko is interacting with the main character at school.

There were other scenes that have been unearthed. Such as one with Dazai in the main characters room. There is going to be a lot more interactions that are going to help make events in the rest of the game feel impactful. Which is good, but I also hope that the original storyline will get some of these moments as I feel like Dazai and the rest of the cast desperately need it.

The new interactions with Demons seem like they will be going a step further. As the eye catching “Nahobeeho” Jack Frost variant is going to be playable, most likely in just a side quest. But it is great to see that there will be lighter moments in-between the newer serious tone of the Vengeance story route.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will launch on PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, Steam. As well as Xbox consoles, for $59.99 USD or $69.99 USD for the deluxe version.
