War Never Changes – Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update and More

While many were sailing the stars last Fall in Starfield, many wondered about ravaged wastelands. Fallout 4 was announced to be receiving an update to leverage the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The update was pushed back, likely to ensure Bethesda Game Studio’s biggest game launched on time.

With the arrival of the critically lauded Fallout show on Amazon Prime, the wastelands proudly return.

Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Breakdown

Announced in 2023, Bethesda reveals when players can experience the next-generation version of the game.

This free update includes native applications for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. Experience up to 60 FPS and increased resolutions!
Fallout 4 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will also receive a free update with stability improvements, login and quest fixes .
As stated on by the publisher, the game will both look and run better across the next-gen consoles. It is worth noting that the game could run at 60FPS via the games console mod support on PlayStation and the FPS boost mode on Xbox Series consoles. The major difference is going to be resolution target, with the performance mode likely running at a high resolution.

In addition to the title looking/running better across all platforms, Fallout 4 will also be getting additional content as well.

Enclave Remnants
Enclave Remnants brings the Pre-War cabal, The Enclave, into the Fallout 4 storyline. In this new quest, “Echoes of the Past,” can you stop The Enclave from spreading their dangerous ideology and gaining a foothold in the Commonwealth?
Along with workshop items and the Enclave Colonel uniform, we are including the following previously released Creation Club content:
  • Enclave Weapon Skins
  • Enclave Armor Skins
  • Tesla Cannon
  • Hellfire Power Armor
  • X-02 Power Armor
  • Heavy Incinerator

This new question line and various additional items will be free with the update on all platforms. But Fallout 4 getting updates is only the beginning.

Fallout Shelter & Fallout 76 Updates

Fallout Shelter is getting an update that adds new content, inspired by the Fallout Amazon Prime show.

We’re releasing an update for Fallout Shelter on mobile that brings Prime Video’s Fallout series-themed content to your vault, including new quests. Download Fallout Shelter from Google Play or the Apple App Store today.

Inspired by the recently released Fallout series streaming on Prime Video, this update adds one questline with 8 new quests to Fallout Shelter, as well as new locations and 6 unlockable vault dwellers, including Lucy and The Ghoul.

And not only that, but Fallout 76 will be given a free play week across all platforms.

So, grab a friend, get into those smashing blue and yellow Vault-Tec suits and head out into beautiful post-war Appalachia. Play from level 2 or get a head start on your adventure with a level 20 Battle Ready Dweller and enjoy all that sweet, yet irradiating air.
Beginning at 12PM ET on April 11 and ending 12PM ET on April 18, Fallout 76 is playable for free on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation platforms.

So you can just download the game and give it a try. Even if the game is far from the ideal traditional Fallout experience some wanted, it has been getting strong support over the years.

The news off all of this content has gotten many excited, so here are some personal thoughts from Lords of Gaming’s own, Robert Kellett and Subeg Dhaliwal on the subject.

Lord Sonic aka Robert Kellett’s Thoughts

As someone who is very much not a Bethesda Game Studios fan, I always found the world of Fallout interesting. The dark humor, detailed and lore-rich world and player agency always called out to me. I was a mainly a PlayStation gamer when the series really hit the spotlight again with Fallout 3 and to say those games ran bad on PS3 is an understatement.

Owning modern consoles, this is a series I intend to give the love and respect it deserves on day and initiatives like the next-generation update for Fallout 4 will help people like me and many others curious about the series to give it a try.

Lord Subeg Dhaliwal;s Thoughts

New writer for Lords of Gaming, who recently published our Rise of the Ronin review and first impressions, also has some commentary on all this Fallout news.

This update to Fallout 4 is coming at the perfect time. With the 8 episode TV series premiering this month, it gives fans and newcomers an avenue to experience the game in its best form for the Xbox, PC, and PlayStation platforms.

That cross media synergy is the key and holds the answer as to why this update is dropping. It’s also nice to see Bethesda is providing this as a free update to Fallout 4 instead of charging consumers extra.

The Fallout series is a blind spot for me so this update gives me a perfect starting point to jump into the series and explore a post-apocalyptic Boston.

Couldn’t agree more with my fellow Scribe. All of this Fallout content releasing close to the TV show is very wise. It reminds me of how PlayStation handled the Last of Us and Uncharted multi-media released in recent years.

But what are your thoughts? Will you be diving into the wastelands after enjoying watching them on the silver screen? Let us know in the comments below!
