Immortals of Aveum FSR 3 Support Coming to Consoles

Coming off the heels of its PlayStation Plus launch, the title will be receiving an update adding FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR 3) support on all platforms.

When Immortals of Aveum originally released on PlayStation 5, Series X and Series X, it pushed Unreal Engine 5. As one of the first major AAA releases to utilize the engine, it didn’t always hit targets. 60FPS was not consistent and the resolution took major hits across all platforms.

Immortals of Aveum FSR 3 Update Details

Reported by Eurogamer/Digital Foundry, updates will add the following features;

The first – patch 1.0.6.3 – adds support for high dynamic range and should be rolling out to all console versions of the game today. Perhaps more exciting is the upcoming 1.0.6.4, which brings AMD’s FSR 3 Frame generation to consoles for the first time, increasing frame-rate via inserted, interpolated frames.

Releasing soon, is the HDR update for the title. Native HDR support, which enhances the details and rage of colors, was missing in the original release. This feature being added to the game will help bolster image quality, something lacking in the original release.

The second update, promises to add Frame Generation into the console versions. Frame Generation is a feature PC owners have enjoyed. This allows a game to run at target frame rate but using additional frames to boost response time. For a game like Immortals of Aveum that requires fast response time, this feature is a huge addition.

Digital Foundry/Eurogamer has said the following on their understanding on how Frame Generation will be incorporated into the console versions;

Based on our experiences with Immortals of Aveum – and indeed our own tests on console-equivalent hardware using the existing PC version – our educated guess would be that Ascendant Studios and Enduring Games will be building on the existing experience targeting 60fps, increasing frame-rate for 120Hz display support. Additionally, VRR on consoles would allow for a smoother, more consistent experience even if there are frame-rate fluctuations below 120fps. Expect the 1.0.6.4 upgrade with FSR 3 support “in just a few short weeks”, according to PR material shared to us by the developer.

Overall Thoughts

As games this generation demand more from the CPU, the GPU and other elements can’t save a game’s performance. Recent releases like Starfield and Dragons Dogma 2 either fail offer higher frame rates or just cannot hit their targets. Having technology like Frame Generation on consoles could help games accomplish their frame rate targets.

In addition, having this technology could help boost image quality. But what do you all think? Could this technology improve games? Or is it just marketing talk? Let us know in the comments below!
