Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection Remaster for PC/PS5 (Rumor)

One way publishers get additional profit from existing titles is through re-releases. Sometimes they can be simple remasters or ports, while others are ground-up remake efforts. Sony as a publisher has dabbled with both approaches. Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection was one of the remaster efforts on PS4, developed by Bluepoint Games. Naughty Dog has spearheaded these efforts on PS5.

Some of the developer’s most famous titles got remaster and remake efforts on PS5. Such titles include Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Last of Us Part 1 and most recently Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection is apparently on the horizon.

Rumor – Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection coming to PS5/PC

As reported by reliable PlayStation insider Zuby_Tech on Twitter/X, the PS4 remaster collection is inbound for PlayStation 5 and PC.

The original release contained remasters of the original Uncharted trilogy, offering enhanced visuals and higher frame rates compared to the original PS3 releases. In addition, the multiplayer modes for Uncharted 2 and 3 were cut. This is not unlike the Last of Us Part 1 release on PS5, where it’s multiplayer mode was not present.

It is also worth noting, that the original PS4 release has backward compatibility issues when played on PlayStation 5.

Closing Thoughts

This could potentially be happening for a few reasons. One could be that the sequel to Sony Pictures’ successful Uncharted film is closer than we think. They could want a Uncharted-adjacent product out on PS5/PC to bolster sales on legacy games. In addition, while PS5 players can play the original collection, PC players cannot.

Releasing it on PC will complement the already-released Legacy of Thieves collection. And since that work is done on PC, why not port that over for PlayStation 5 players?

My personal take on all this… It devalues Naughty Dog. This entire generation, they have not released a single new project. Since releasing Last of Us Part 2 on PS4 in 2020 to critical acclaim, they have been doing remaster and remake efforts on very recent titles.

While the pricing has improved with Legacy of Thieves Collection and Last of Us Part 2: Remastered, it still doesn’t help the fact we haven’t seen anything new from them. That being said, it has been reported they are working on a new IP, and plans for Last of Us Part 3 are out there.

To be fair to the studio, a major project of theirs just recently got canceled. So this could be the studio trying to make up for lost time.

But what are your thoughts? Do you think Nathan Drake’s legendary adventures deserve a new spit-shine?
