The hero shooter genre is dominated by Overwatch. Despite having a rocky launch with its sequel, the franchise is still successful. Its dominance might be threatened by a new challenger in Marvel Rivals.
Avengers Assemble – Marvel Rivals Announced
Described by Game Informer;
Marvel Rivals offers 6v6 PVP action featuring arenas from across the Marvel Multiverse, including Asgard and Tokyo 2099. The title touts a deep roster of heroes and villains to choose from, including members of the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and more, all with unique Team-Up skills that play off various synergies between heroes.
As shown off in the trailer, the core gameplay is very much similar to Overwatch. One major differentiator is destructible arenas, something that is not present in Overwatch 2 .
Choose Your Hero – The Roster
What makes or breaks a hero shooter is the cast. And with a Roster like Marvel’s, the line up is unexpectedly exciting.

Stand outs for me personally include Spider-Man and Loki. The former has the potential to be one of the fastest characters in the game, while the later has the ability to copy a hero’s entire move set. Seeing deeper cuts like Namor, Magik and Peni Parker inspires confidence in the roster of future heroes joining the roster.
Overall Thoughts on Marvel Rivals
While I’m not personally a major fan of hero-shooters, I have a love of Marvel. Specifically, the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises. So, seeing that cast duke it out in a fun multiplayer action title has me excited.
The major concerns have to be monetization, however. With a brand like Marvel, the roster of costumes and outfits a player could buy are immense.
