8 Essential Alone in the Dark Tips to Survive Derceto Mansion

Alone in the Dark has made its long-awaited return after a lengthy hiatus. However, surviving Derceto Mansion is entirely a different ordeal. But don’t worry, here are 8 Alone in the Dark tips to help you in your descent into madness.

Alone in the Dark Tips – Lower the Aim Sensitivity

One of the most imperative Alone in the Dark tips you can take away deals with the twitch-shooter level aim sensitivity. By default, it is set to 8 out of 10 (note – this is before the day 1 patch). You don’t need that crazy amount of aim sensitivity. This isn’t a competitive battle royale. My recommendation is to tone it down to 5 or 6 and see what feels good for you.

Wait for the Reticle to Reset Before Popping Off Each Shot

Like most survival horror games, ammo is sparse (well for most of the game). So, you must make every shot count. With that said, when lining up a shot, make sure to wait for the reticle to reset before shooting. This way, it will ensure that you make the most out of every bullet.

Prioritize the Lost Children Lagniappe To Get the Shotgun

One of the most important Alone in the Dark tips involves Laginappes. They are collectibles that come in sets of three. Most of them will unlock audio logs that flesh out the characters. However, the Lost Children Lagniappe will unlock the key to the shotgun cabinet in Derceto Mansion. So, be sure to prioritize it to get Elmer Fudd on the horrific creatures you will encounter.

Alone in the Dark Tips – Check Your Map Regularly

Alone in the Dark features a pretty nifty dynamic map. It will show you locked/barred doors, and locations of puzzles and note if they are solvable or not. In addition, it will also indicate whether something is missing in rooms or not. But keep referring to your map as a guide. Of course, it only works in Derceto Mansion, so no use opening it up when in a dreamscape.

Aim to Stop Sprinting

For the most part, Alone in the Dark controls decently enough. But one aspect that was kind of wonky was sprinting. Sometimes, you need to slow down immediately after a sprint. The best way to do this is by simply aiming with your weapon. Presto from sprint to 0 in no time.

Alone in the Dark Tips – Know Your Throwables

Throwables come in two varieties: bricks and Molotov cocktails. The former is used for distracting enemies, while the latter doesn’t really need an explanation. But as we mentioned in our review, once you pick up a throwable, you have to use it or lose it. So, keep in mind where throwables are located to avoid scrambling.

Throwables Do Snap to Targets

One thing to keep in mind about using throwables is that when you aim, your throwing reticle will automatically snap to targets.

Dodging Will Save Your Life

No doubt that dodging is a bit OP in the game, so use it to get out of a pickle fast. Especially if you want to add a bit of space to pop off some shots or land a nice melee hit.

Alone in the Dark is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
