Destiny 2 – Season of the Witch Guide

Guardians, it is that time again. Bungie brings a new season to Destiny 2Season of the Witch debuted after a terrific The Final Shape showcase. Furthermore, this season builds upon the Vanguard’s quest to follow the Witness into the Traveler. Subsequently, you will work closely with Eris Morn and Immaru along with casting wicked spells. Here is a guide to get started.

New Story and Activities

Last season ended with the revelation of Savathûn knowing a safe way into the Traveler. Season of the Witch begins with the Vanguard striking a deal with her Ghost Immaru. However, it comes with a cost. Savathûn foresaw this and demanded we guardians dispose of her sister, Xivu Arath.

Xivu Arath is the Hive God of War and the top general of the Witness’ army. Furthermore, she only grows stronger with conflict. Thus, Eris Morn is relying on Hive magicks to become a god herself and stop Xivu Arath.

Savathûn’s Spire is a new matchmade activity housed inside the Witch’s Spire. Traversing it grants access to Altars of Summoning and secret chests. Additionally, you will learn more about Immaru’s recent dealings and how Eris is handling her transformations.

Altars of Summoning is a combination of Blind Well and the Court of Oryx. There are three different tithe stations awaiting an offering representing difficulty. A randomized encounter will occur after your offering. Subsequently, the difficulty changes the amount of tithe progress you gain upon completion. The harder the difficulty, the more tithes Eris gains.

Seasonal Loop

Subsequently, guardians gain tithe offerings from almost any activity. They drop in abundance and Altars of Summoning can be grinded repeatedly within the same instance. The Summonings revolve around crystals (arc, solar, or void) and their element dictates the objective.

  • Arc Crystal – Transfer the energy from one to all crystals.
  • Void Crystal – Destroy the crystals then destroy the Voidkeepers.
  • Solar Crystal – Carry the crystal to a designated destination. Solar Crystal constantly damages the carrier.

Draw Your Fortune

Similar to Ahsa’s Blessings, Season of the Witch awards players different bonuses during seasonal activities via the Deck of Whispers. This is a tarot deck that can be viewed at the Lectern of Divination table inside the Affaneum. It contains Major and Minor Arcana cards.

Guardians reveal these cards by first gaining opaque cards from destinations, reward chests, or seasonal activities. Minor Arcana cards grant an immediate reward such as enhancement cores, engrams, etc. Conversely, Major Arcana Cards require specific objectives to be completed, but they offer buffs during a seasonal activity.

This only occurs after you acquire five Major cards for a loadout deck. You can swap your cards at any time prior to the activity as one will be drawn at random before an encounter. There are only five Major Arcana Cards available in the first week of Season of the Witch. Additionally, cards in the Deck of Whispers grant season bonuses and daily bounties at the Ritual Table.

Ritual Table

The Ritual Table contains your reputation rewards along with bounties you unlock. Furthermore, armor and weapon focusing is conducted here. Season of the Witch brings stellar Hive-themed armor and weapons along with the return of weapons from the Red War campaign.

Additional rewards can be obtained from seasonal chests if a Witch Key is used to open them. These keys can drop from ritual playlists along with earning them through vendor reputation or the season pass. Lastly, Ex Diris is the premiere exotic weapon for this season. Banshee-44 gives the quest for its exotic catalyst once you visit him.

Bare Your Tithes

That wraps up this starting guide for Season of the Witch. Similar to other seasons, many things are time gated and unlocked as the season progresses. Bungie came out with a strong showing for this season both narratively and through gameplay. Hopefully, they stick the landing into The Final Shape.
